I was part of two presidential advance teams for Reagan's visits to the Vatican. The Pope played an integral role in the defeat of communism and the disintegration of the Soviet Union. Having a Polish Pope was a godsend, pun intended.

I did not start the reference, just asking if it was the usual suspects. Please post to the one who made the initial reference if it bothers you that much.

Vatican Radio has preempted regular programming and is also carrying the Mass.

World Radio Network, however, didn't. Grr.

Yes it is. Isn't Sunday Divine Mercy Sunday? If at any time we should implore God Our Father to have mercy on us and on the whole world, it is now.

Fond thoughts to you, dear Pippin! GG

That is the best picture of the pope I have ever seen. It emphasizes the call of the Shepherd.

I saw the Pope in the early seventies when he came to Washington DC. He spoke on the Mall. I have been to the Mall many times in my life but I can't remember it ever being so crowded - mostly with nuns. I was just a kid but I remember almost everything about that day. Vendors were selling T-shirts and buttons with the phrase "John Paul II, We Love You".

Sounds like he wants to pass away from home rather than a hospital.

A very Human request and his wishes should be honored....soon to exchange the pain of this world with the glory of the next!

A great man soon to leave his earthly bounds...

Amen!
