God works in mysterious ways... So very true. Good post, GloriaJane.
But he works in his own time...
I think what just happened was a result of impatience. Michael couldn't wait for Terri to die in God's time, so he found accomplices and they killed her. Now he can "get on with his life."
Patience is a lost virtue in our society.

Thanks for the ping, Wolfstar. We are going to have to pay close attention to all debate on this subject.
This is not going to go away. I'm still hearing 'conservative' talk show hosts repeating things we know not to be true.

. . .there's no question whatsoever that the Christian right pushed this case to national prominence, Hmmm.. Since when is the Catholic Church "the Christian right?"

The title should have been. Schiavo's life was purposely cut short, but her legacy is long (USA Today editorial)

I don't care how well meaning folks are. Causing someone to die by withholding any medical treatment is immoral. We are not God. We must do what we can for those weaker than ourselves. My Marine son recently sent me a picture a two Marines trying to save a wounded Marine. One died trying. This is what honor and morality is about, not rationalizing premature death. I wonder why so many people here are expending energy in that type of rationalization?
Honor and morality: some understand, some don't. I thank your son for his service and I am deeply sorry for every loss.

"
... lunatic Hemlock Society pals have already enacted euthanasia-by-starvation in many states"
Now, now, that's EOLI, or "End of Life Issues", as they prefer to be known. They're no longer the Hemlock Society.
Notice how so many are already using the language the 'end of life issues' group has introduced into society? They are being allowed to frame the issue. Disgusting.

I don't see feeding tube mentioned in the sentence you quoted, do you? Can you answer the question? Would you be in favor of requiring the medical insertion of feeding tubes, even for those who refuse them in writing?
A simple yes or no will suffice.

After the fiasco this became politically for the GOP, I don't think any congresscritters will want to touch this with a 100-foot pole. They certainly did head for the tall grass {including the President} once they got a clue how the majority of Americans felt about this very personal issue.

Just remember, what the government giveth, the government can taketh away. When your feeding tube is eventually inserted, take special notice of the distal end. If you find it plugged into Uncle, be very afraid. Well said.

Schindlers lawyers did not come close to making use of this legislation, as I can see that you know very well.

HOSPICE BY LAW IS ONLY SUPPOSED TO HELP THE TERMINALLY ILL PASS OVER! That includes palliative care and keeping the patient comfortable. Terri was denied both. Under force of armed police, they had to go against their nursing instincts and administer a painful and cruel death. They became the instruments of death rather than merely witnesses.

*Please don't reduce the holocaust to a decision to remove a feeding tube of a woman who no longer had any life to call her own.
Every holocaust starts somewhere.*

Official killing of so called Useless eaters was the forerunner of the Holocaust. I have a cousin that had a rare form of blood Cancer, our family was told she never reach adulthood, thousands of dollars in medical bills were run up,but now she is in her 30's with kids of her own, should she have been killed because of the cost?
The Schiavo case isn't about the right to choose, its about the Idea held by the liberal elite that that if you are to sick\disabled and unable to work and pay taxes to their beloved state, your selfish and to want to live and it would better off for you just to die
and as someone who has been on SSI most of my adult life because of diabetics/back problems I have more dog in this fight then you think

And did you know that EVERY EMPLOYEE had to AGREE to Terri being starved to death by SIGNING a form? Did you know that?
Three apparently REFUSED to sign the form and were released....I am still trying to put a name to the person who I believe either a FReeper or Sean Hannity spoke to about this.
Do HOSPICE WORKERS ALWAYS have to sign forms agreeing to the death orders?
I doubt it.
And I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW if that form ALSO included a section that stated that they agreed to NOT SPEAK ABOUT WHAT TRANSPIRED THERE on threat of being fired.
I wonder.
But I don't wonder at ALL about who drew up their oath to agree to killing terri. I have no doubt about that one.
