You are the one "ranking" them. *I* am saying they are equal.
We have names for Life without Liberty; "enslavement" is one.
That's why it's imperative not to lose sight of the individual, and all rights. Don't get tunnel vision and lose sight of the PEOPLE.

By saying they are equal you do rank them.
One could not have liberty sans life. There would be nothing there to be free.
Exactly. Life can exist without liberty, but liberty cannot exist without life. Liberty is a far more fragile right, requiring stronger vigilance, even though they are equal.
Your observation is an excellent one. You (and one or two others I've discussed this with on FR the last couple of days) have given me fresh insight into this matter. I thank you very much.
George Felos. Did you see him being interviewed the morning after Terri's death? Ann Currey nailed him and he shouted at her when she questioned the removal of Terri's brother from the room. He's cold through and through, just like death itself.
He showed himself to the world and showed what "death with dignity" is like.
I didn't know about the hospice workers having to sign a form. This just gets worse. I wondered about the police guards; they could have refused the duty, refused to be gestapo. I never thought that law in the U.S. could be used to turn a hospice into a Nazi concentration camp, but that's what happened.
When I look at this photo of Terri's father, Bob Schindler, I think of lyrics from the song "Alfie:"
*What's it all about when you sort it out, Alfie?
Are we meant to take more than we give
Or are we meant to be kind?
And if only fools are kind, Alfie,
Then I guess it's wise to be cruel.
And if life belongs only to the strong, Alfie,
What will you lend on an old golden rule?
As sure as I believe there's a heaven above, Alfie,
I know there's something much more,
Something even non-believers can believe in.
I believe in love, Alfie.
Without true love we just exist, Alfie.*
Bob is the anti-cynic, the one who loves, the "fool" who is kind, the innocent who will never understand the cruelty of his enemy.
What about when you see the video of him harshly poking at his daughter and berating her for not responding to him?
You're welcome, and one reason I pinged you was because of your comments that have done the same for me. It's scary that conservatism is being highjacked by pseudoconservatives who don't seem to care a hoot for sanctity of marriage, individual rights, local control of government, etc. Meanwhile, the lefties are egging on the process...since these short-sighted types are playing right into the hands of the big nanny-government types. :-(
