For the most part, men who "have it together" are going to attract women in swarms. Most smart men are in that category.

All other things being equal, men living at home with their parents and working a nondescript job are going to have a hard time with the ladies. But men who are pulling in a good paycheck and have a nice place to live are going to be fighting them off. Usually it is the "smart" men who put themselves into the latter category.

I think a lack of social skills can actually work in a man's favor. Men who are "babe magnets" get all the floozies, gold-diggers and other undesirables clinging onto them. Men who are more shy and more socially awkward may not get the hot dates but that built-in filter eventually works in their favor, as they usually end up with a decent woman.

There is only source that will tell you how to succeed in a relationship:

When I just exclaimed to my husband, "Oh my goodness, two Freepers are engaged," he said, "Well, now they'll argue about who gets the computer." ;)

Among Common Tator's other talents, he writes software, so that's not a problem. Actually, there are 14 computers in our house, and we have "his and hers" in this room...:)

Thanks for the congrats, that is very sweet of you. We actually met here on FR, didn't even know we were from the same area until exchanging a few FReepmails about going to see President Bush when he was campaigning. And the rest is history...

I consider myself a very lucky woman!

...women like "bad boys"
I've had several women tell me "You're too nice."

So I turned around and said "What the #&^! are you talking about, b*tch?"

My reponse is the parody pickup line

"Yo, bimbo
I'm Mr Sleaze
I'm what you want and
I'm what you need

We go to my place
We do da wild thing
Then after that I
slap you 'round some"

If she gets all excited (as in finding her "bad boy"), I just tell her "Bzzzt, you just failed the test. NEXT!"

I agree with everything you've said...but the thing about the use of the word "most" is that it can be absolutely true and not apply to those that are excluded. The male seeking better results with women doesn't care about the stats...he only wants better results for himself.

Plus, not everyone "has it together". The "un-togethers" have a right to self-improve, both economically and date-istically. And I think we all know folks who are apparently quite competent, decent human beings, and sociable in their way but have horrible relationship luck.

Speaking for myself and being as specific as I can...what few tidbits I've picked up from the offerors' mailings have worked pretty well for me, certainly better than my former approach which was "nice guy". No, I am not a rude lout. (at least I don't think so) But I do think that even if a man is after intelligent women (as opposed to not caring about this quality) then the realization that most (and there I go) women of ALL intelligence levels are attracted to some sort of challenge is good info.

Isn't that "enry iggins"? Luckily, I have my wife, who puts me through enormous trials and struggles with her balance of logic and emotion, whom He granted me to balance my logic and most times, lack of emotion. Men/women....such a delicate yet powerful balance. Who knew?

After I posted that, I've been singing "The rain in Spain, falls mainly on the plain" to CT all evening...:)

Sounds like you and your wife got it right. I too, am lead by my emotions. I jokingly call myself a "dumb blonde", and sometimes have felt inadequate about my lack of formal education (I'm just a HS graduate). CT has re-inforced to me that life experience is a good thing as well.

In my case, my daughter made up for my lack of higher education, as she has 3 degrees, was a four time Big Ten Scholar Athlete recipient, and married a wonderful man who is now completing his MBA.

My son is more like me, kind a dreamer and artistic type, but is working fulltime and taking classes. And he and his fiance are going to make me a Grandma in October, so life is good!

FR might as well start a dating service and be done with it.

The 10-1 single male-to-single female ratio around here would make it a fruitless exercise. ;)

"The 'women like bad boys or jerks' is a strawman - it's mostly repeated by men who consistently don't do well in attracting women and sexually exciting them."

I one time had a designer working for me who did have a thing for "bad boys" and jerks. She was extremely attractive, and otherwise quite intelligent. It was just every once in a while (well, more often than that) she would show up at work with bruises on her face. Yep, the latest Mr. Sleaze she just found beat the cr@p out of her.

I take care of the important things. She decides where I work, the budget, how much money we make. where the kids go to school, where we live, and runs the household. I let her do this because I work on important things like, Iraq, the engery crises, next shot to mars, and future presidents.

Summary of article:

Smart guys fail. Don't be smart. Be stupid and get laid. That's how blonds deal with being beautiful and avoid striking out over the temptation to use their brains instead of their busts and buns.

Why isn't this titled: "Why women marry losers instead of intelligent men?"

The presumption in that article is that something is wrong with the man, and why it there can't possibly be anything wrong with the woman.

In today's society, most American women aren't worth the time of day, let alone marriage. The system is biased against the male, and it is also biased against whoever is the more decent person in the relationship.

So if are a guy and decent, you get screwed twice by the "system" if it doesn't work out.

That's the lesson I learned in my 20's. It works to this day. However, it limits you to shallow narcissistic emotional vampires.

Yeah, but only for the evening.
