White House Fears GOP Senator Will Kill Bolton Nomination
Human Events Online ^ | April 18, 2005 | Chris Field

Hagel May Jump Ship on Bush's Pick for UN Ambassodor -- Human Events has learned that the White House has become increasingly nervous about the confirmation of John Bolton to be U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.

As a new week begins on Capitol Hill, conservatives are beginning to worry that the Democrats' smear campaign against John Bolton might be working.

With the Senate Foreign Relations Committee set to vote on the nomination on Tuesday, Republicans now fear that they might not have the votes to get Bolton out of committee and onto the Senate floor.

Liberal GOP Sen. Lincoln Chafee (R.I.) has long been a question mark for the Senate leadership. Now Majority Leader Frist must add fellow presidential hopeful Sen. Chuck Hagel (R.-Neb.) to his list of possible turncoats.

Sources say that the White House is taking seriously reports that Hagel is considering a vote against the President's pick to represent the U.S. at the United Nations in committee.

The Los Angeles Times today reported that Hagel "suggested" he might oppose the Bolton nomination because he is "troubled" by the nominee's "method of operation" and that he is "concerned about a series of accusations questioning Bolton's temperament and wondered if he was the right man for the job."

Conservatives in Washington believe that, in effect, a vote against Bolton would put an end to any hopes for higher political office that Sen. Hagel may harbor. What he now says stands in stark contrast to his March 14 statement on the Bolton nomination just over a month ago:

As of this posting, Sen. Hagel's office had not yet responded to phone or email messages.

What is involved in changing the makeup of the committee?
There HAS to be a way to get this scumbag Hagel out of there, or at least add another Republican to neutralize Hagel's vote.

From what I read more and more every day I get the feeling that the u.s. senate is full of nothing but know -it-alls.

My question is - who in the senate ISNT running for president.

Chuck Hagel is a true RINO, nothing more. He's CNN's and Judy Woodruff's favorite Republican because he can always be counted on to criticize his fellow Republicans. I don't trust him, and I will never support him for president or any Republican ticket that includes him.

Unfortunately, Sen. Kyl -- the other, better senator from Arizona -- isn't.

This is the profile of Washington these days -- it is all about POWER -- and to hell with the idea of working FOR THE PEOPLE AND THE COUNTRY. It is out of control. The citizenry better wake up and soon.

You know, I truly believe that this happens, especially in the senate based on what I have seen the past few years (since Bush has been in office). It has been one obstructionist over another. One party turncoat after another.

In each instance the main reason the person opposes the president or pulls somthing like Hagel is getting ready to pull is for their own good - not for the good of the country.

Ungh.

This is EXACTLY what is going on there now, with no end in sight -- a candidate, strong and dedicated to cleaning up Washington, could be a real winner, LANDSLIDE, in 2008. Problem is it is hard to believe ANY of them now. Talk is cheap, and many times, outright lies.

The GOP has a number of tares within the wheat. Anytime something important is to be voted on, they appear and ruin the crop. This is no accident. They produce these cretins at key moments all the time.

I wouldn't be surprised to see party leaders give us a 2008 choice between Frist, McCain, and Hagel, with the winner given to us as a "stop Hillary" candidate. Anybody remember Dole in 1996? Clinton laughed his way to re-election. We were told we needed an "electable" candidate. He sure got elected didn't he?

The GOP is a bunch of monarchists and royalists. They may need conservatives and Christians to be elected, but they want us to get lost otherwise so they can have their tea parties down at the country club.

Hagel will get LOST.

Which, in the long run, will probably do more damage to our country than failing to confirm Bolton.

Regardless of whether Hagel votes for or against, as a Nebraskan, I will not support any bid Hagel makes for the White House.

Allow me to throw in on this one Tx,
Tom Osborne would whip Hagels a$$ in any political contest that the two of them decided to enter in this state. (Ronald Reagan, John Wayne or God would be lucky to pick up 30% against T.O. in Nebraska) Coach, I believe, is interested in the governors seat, however. He will not run against Hagel because he is a TEAM guy. And a TEAM guy does what's best for the TEAM.

Well, NUTS---He would have been a good alternative to Hagel---

I am sure Osborne will make a good Governor---he and J.C. Watts (probable Governor of Oklahoma) should have some fun during football season when their teams play against each other!!!

I have so had it with these congressional wimps. Bolton is the perfect man for the job, it's too bad Sammy Gravano isn't available. The UN needs almost total demolition.

What wimps!

Great minds apparently do think alike. :D

My HAUNTING MESSAGE to the President wanna be... it gonna happen in this life time NOW you wuss SENATOR:

"I intend to support John Bolton’s nomination to be Ambassador to the United Nations. His experience and knowledge will serve him well as he represents America’s interests in the U.N. at a critically important time. Mr. Bolton’s commitment to consult with members of Congress on a regular basis will be essential in helping him strengthen the U.N. and moving it toward reform.
He has the confidence of the President and the Secretary of State and I believe he will be confirmed by the U.S. Senate."

Now put your SPINE where your MOUTH is SENATOR!
