Why is he a good choice?

He's the one who made sure that everyone was on the same page, doctrinally speaking. Needless to say if anyone was waiting around for women priests they're going to be disappointed.

As a cardinal, Pope Benedict XVI was known as the "Enforcer." If you got a call to see Cardinal Ratzinger, you knew you were in trouble. I love that he is strict, experienced, has been close to PJPII, and was, obviously, the choice of the Holy Spirit. His Homily, yesterday, was a preface. His policies are clear, his stance on teachings of the church is solid.

This is a joyous, joyous selection for Catholics who strive to comply with the rules, recognize that we do not always succeed, but know in our hearts the need to keep the standards high.

The rewards of meeting the challenges, overcoming the hurdles, failing - trying again, working hard to live by the rules - and achieving the goals gives us greater happiness and peace than when the bar is lowered to make religion "easy," and the mandates are in flux.
