I think Benedict is a bit further down the path than Saul was.

I just think people would be screaming bloody murder if their was a Nazi connection to a Pope that was liberal. Or to anyone else they disagree with.

I don't know about that; I understand Saul/Paul to have been pretty good at his job. More akin to an SS general than this Hitler youth.

BUT we won't have a wartless unifying leader of all the entire --- not merely the Roman Catholic --- Christian Church until JC comes back.
