Today: Bloodthirsty Katie Gleefully Piles on Delay and Bolton
The Today Show | governsleast governsbest

Posted on 04/21/2005 4:32:40 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Perhaps Katie enjoyed a particularly restful night's sleep, for she seemed unusually perky and energetic this morning, filled with such eagerness to trash Tom Delay and John Bolton that she couldn't help but interrupt Tim Russert with various impromptu barbs.

How's this for Couric's "fair and balanced" opening line: "I know Delay has been admonished or warned five times, more than any other sitting member of Congress. So what got him into trouble?"

When Russert wasn't quick enough for Katie's taste in enumerating Delay's alleged foibles, Couric "helpfully" interjected: "wasn't there something involving his wife as well?"

Seeking to portray this as something other than the overwhelmingly partisan witch hunt it is, Couric observed: "I know it's not just Democrats [criticizing Delay]: Newt, Lincoln Chaffee, Santorum and others have done so. So is this more than a partisan battle?"

Katie eventually trained her sights on W's nominee for UN Ambassador, John Bolton. Try this introduction by Katie on for partisan size: "Already unpopopular in some quarters for disparaging comments on UN, now allegations have surfaced [that he mistreated various colleagues.]"

Couric asked Russert whether Bolton's nomination "is in big trouble."

Russert opined that it is. "The problem is that several Republican senators, at least four, have deep, deep reservations. They feel we're going to need someone at UN who can present the case to the world as to Iran's and N. Korea's WMD programs. In the past, Bolton has been accused of . . . "

Once again, Katie, eager for the kill, interrupted with her personal allegation that Bolton forced subordinates to come up with intelligence "that supports his position, basically."

Even to this veteran Today Show watcher, inured to Katie's partisanship, her unabashed bloodthirstiness this morning was startling.

Thanks for the reminder as to why I don't watch the Today Show anymore.

Clearly Perkie Katie thinks they have won the battles and now is enjoying the euphoria of the pursuit. If the recent past is any guide, she, and the rest of the MSM Left, will have their over-reaching heads handed to them by President Bush within a fortnight.

...Strategery!

Yes, Katie must have got some last night. She comes across like this about every two weeks like a kid in a candy store.

I'm waiting for the day when I can feel "giddy" about her downfall/firing. Can we take a poll now and publish it so that we can get Russert to say that "Yes, indeed, 'some say' that Katie Couric no longer interests the TV viewing audience?"

Please give credit to my sister, Patricia, for coining the term, "The Shoe Model" for Katie Couric. My sister has been calling her that for years...on an instinctive level, Patricia just never liked perky li'l Katie for even a second.

"Actually, the show gets much of its lead in from Leno..Studies show that when the TV set is turned on in the morning..people tend to stay on the channel it was on when turned off the night before.

OK, I am so not normal! (But you all knew that already). The last thing I do before shutting off the tv at night is to switch from whatever channel I was watching to ABC and turn the volume way down so it doesn't wake everyone in the morning. I don't stay up late enough to catch the late shows after the news (I don't even stay up to watch the news), but if I did I certainly wouldn't watch Leno as I prefer Letterman. I just figure it's easier to set up the tv for what I want in the morning the night before.

That would be an interesting study. They must focus group this thing. It would be good to see audience sentiment depending on how partisan her performance is. I suppose there would be a red/blue state divide. I also suppose TTS's audience is predominantly (married) women.

The whole question of TV ratings is, IMHO, suspect...Homes have multiple TVs, VCRs, DVDs, TIVOs, and cable on demand..so what are you really "watching"..and when..and more do anythign to avoid the incessant commercials and promos...with regards to the morning TV..it's more background noise..It gets turned on when people get up..turned off when the leave the house..

actually, its ratings are falling. their daily audience is hovering around 600,000, not 1-2 million like in the past.

*Its ratings are falling. Their daily audience is hovering around 600,000, not 1-2 million like in the past.*

According to this article, while Today's audience has dropped 5% from last season, it still attracts a daily average of 6 million viewers.

It was very obvious.....I quickly put on ABC to hear them talk about drivers running traffic lights :(

Undoubtedly true. But I was referring to sentiment, not ratings. I know that they sometimes track sentiment on a continual basis, respondants being given buttons to press in real time to indicate approval/disapproval.
