Apple on Thursday held its annual shareholders meeting at the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, Calif. While the majority of the question and answer period went smoothly, a group of environmentalists drew the ire of Apple CEO Steve Jobs as he sought to set the record straight. Jobs also used the opportunity to take a swipe at Microsoft’s upcoming “Longhorn” operating system.

I'm actually pretty impressed that Jobs (or any CEO for that matter) would know about that much detail on what goes during the day to day tasks of his company. That or this group has been around before.

He's still a CEO and will defend his company against the environuts. I like how they admitted picking the iPod just because it's the most popular. They're not pro-environment, they're anti-business.

I've heard Steve Jobs is a huge lib and FOB so I'm very impressed with his performance reported here. Sounds like he had an excellent response to everything the environmental wackos threw at him. Way to go Steve!

I'm sure he does in general, but I'm also sure he studied for this. These groups have been making anti-Apple noise for a while so it was likely they'd show up at the meeting to try to make him look bad. It's just good preparedness.

and he did not pass a chance to take a hit at MS:

"When asked about the release of Mac OS X Tiger and Microsoft’s Windows, Jobs was very succinct. “They are shamelessly trying to copy us,” said Jobs. “I think the most telling thing is that Tiger will ship at the end of the month and Longhorn is still two years out. They can’t even copy fast,” Jobs said to the cheering crowd."

I loved his comment on prison and forced labor for the recycling. No we don't use it, but "It's been suggested we do this in software development." LOL!

I guess it's more funny if you're a developer yourself.

I agree -- most of the so-called "environmentalists" (whatever that really is) -- are really anti-establishment, anti-industry, anti-everything freaks that fit nowhere else. Losers supreme.

Like most libs, they are JUST TROUBLE MAKERS.

I live about 2 miles from Apple Central.

Building in the area is booming.

Steve Jobs, one of the few (or only one as far as I know) CEO's of 2 different public companies, is also a huge workaholic.

He's know to be very into the nuts and bolts, hands on, micromanaging type.

On the environmentalists front, Jobs has several different gripes with them, including them trying stop him from building his house and demolishing (sold it eventually) old house.

Yea, He's held numerious fundraisers for democrats over the years, Al Gore (as noted in the article) even sits on the board at Apple.

He has a few different reasons to hate enviornmentalists, from both business and personal reasons (involving him home).

jobs was/is a control freak...which is why he could never stand to license the mac and possibly get more market share...except for a short-lived experiment in the middle 90's

"Isn't Steve Jobs a liberal's liberal?"

He's a fairly strident social liberal, with all that that entails, but he has managed somehow to remain relatively pro-business. Chalk it up to his and Woz's "shoestring" startup experience, I guess.

I've always hoped Steve would escape the Dark Side.. He is too good of a businessman to be a leftie.
