I'm just seeing your posts about the uniforms. As others have said, most US kids don't wear a uniform, tho some lower income public schools have started in order to avoid gang identification and to save parents money on clothes.

I went to Catholic school for 12 years and wore a uniform every freaking day. When I was in prep school, while the rest of the world was in miniskirts, we were wearing wool blazers and skirts to our knees (measured by the nuns, thank you). Anything to keep us girls from looking fashionable.

I still nauseated when I wear navy blue. : )

Schools in the UK have recognized that children want to look fashionable so many of them have introduced a more casual uniform which reflects modern mode of dress.

Also taking into consideration many children have to be up early so short gray skirts may not be practical they now allow girls to wear trousers.

The following photos are of a junior school and the second one is in fact the current uniform of the school that I went to.

Though the girl in the photo wearing a skirt is wearing one that is fairly long and maybe considered not very modern the majority that wear skirts and I see the children going to the school most morning wear more modern ones very often very short ones. So I think the schools here have taken the middle ground basically making children have a uniform but not the starchy tradition image of one.
