Ailing Specter Now Pushes Stem Cell Research

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Arlen Specter is pushing legislation to expand stem cell research with the perspective of a man fighting a deadly illness.

The Pennsylvania Republican has Hodgkin's disease, a cancer of the lymph system, and is being treated with chemotherapy. He and two colleagues introduced a bill Thursday that would allow for what is often referred to as therapeutic cloning.

"I've got a new hairdo, which you can all observe, and that is indicative of a problem which may well be helped by stem cell research if it were to go forward," said Specter, referring to the loss of most of his hair.

Specter was joined at a news conference by Sens. Orrin Hatch of Utah, a conservative Republican, and Dianne Feinstein of California, a moderate Democrat. The three said their bill would make reproductive cloning, to produce a baby, a crime punishable by up to 10 years.

But they do want to allow for "therapeutic cloning" for the purpose of obtaining stem cells to be used in treating disease.

Therapeutic cloning requires the destruction of an embryo, and therefore opponents argue that destroying it is the same as destroying life.

Specter, a co-sponsor of stem cell legislation in the last Congress, said he believes the United States needs to place more emphasis on health care research.

"I do not think that we are spending the right priorities with respect to our health care budget," he said. "I don't choose to unduly personalize it, but I have to find some way to excuse my hairdo."

Creating a baby for someone would be a crime, punishable by 10 years in prison.

Creating a baby so we could kill it, AND LIVE OFF THE REMAINS, would be just fine.

WE HAVE TRULY COME UPON THE BIZARRO WORLD.

May God have mercy on our souls. If nothing else in history ever showed that man does not deserve the forgiveness and mercy of Jesus Christ, this does.

There is some sort of justice here. After scheming, plotting, false-flagging and generally being a total twink, Spectre (intentional misspelling) gets his Judiciary Chairmanship. Poised to block/delay/obstruct GWB's appointments, he is struck by this.

Watch your Karma, people.

Regards,

We're already free to "expand stem cell research" as much as we want to. It just has to be done with private money. People will invest in edgy technology when they feel an emergency exists.

Now that gasoline is heading for $3/gallon, a lot of former liberals are coming out in favor of nuclear power. And the older and more cancer-riddled our domestic Taliban get, the more they will tend to start suppotring biotech.

Embryonic Stem Cell (ESC) research is a Trojan Horse designed to claim a benefit to killing babies.

IF there were ANY potential medical benefit attributable to embryonic stem cells, there would be plenty of private funding and no need for government funding.

The GREAT potential is in ADULT Stem cells, derived from umbilical cord blood (from live birth), bone marrow, nasal cells, etc.

The "claim" for ESCs is that because they are "undifferentiated" they can become any other cell.
In fact, they don't STAY any other cell. They regress or die within 3 months.
So, in the case of the treatment of Parkinsen's patients, they would require new injections of ESCs into the brain every three months. And then only show marginal improvement.
