Woman finds relief from fibromyalgia

It's been described as "the worst flu you ever had" and pain that never goes away. Fibromyalgia affects some 3 million to 6 million Americans -- primarily women.

Many struggle just to convince their doctor of their pain because symptoms are varied and no test can diagnose it. One woman finally found an answer herself.

(snip)

Darlene discovered the key to her relief was in the foods she ate and those she eliminated. The trigger seemed to be a substance called excitotoxins. It's found in monosodium glutamate, high fructose corn syrup, even vegetables high in glutamate.

Without it, Darlene is like a new person.

Eliminating MSG and aspartame can be tough to do. Many processed foods contain these items and the consumer may be unaware since they can be listed as other ingredients.

According to Truth in Labeling Campaign, the following substances always contain MSG:

autolyzed yeast, calcium caseinate, gelatin, glutamate, glutamic acid, hydrolyzed protein, monopotassium glutamate, monosodium glutamate, sodium caseinate, textured protein, yeast extract , yeast food, and yeast nutrient.

Since I live in NC I can get Pepsi One, which is also made w/ Splenda, but it does have caffeine.

My mom sent me a link to a web site on lyme disease and a possible link to fibromyalgia. It definitely got my attention because of some other very weird symtpoms I've had that are specifically mentioned w/ respect to Lyme. Freepmail me if you're interested and I'll send you the link. I'm taking the information to my doctor (also a fibromite) asap. IBS and thyroid are specifically mentioned. I take Synthroid daily for fibro symptoms, even though my standard thyroid blood tests are normal. It helps.

People can also be allergic to nitrates. I used to get a migraine on a monthly basis, didn't know why until I bought a 2-pound pack of pepperoni on sale for $4 at Sam's Club. Started getting migraines every night, then I figured out that I was eating pepperoni pizza about once a month, connected the dots... nitrates from processed meats & cold cuts were what were doing me in. Migraines are much rarer now.

In fact, I've got one right now... just had to try one tiny slice of that weird sausage at the dinner tonight, you know? Bah!

I am a sufferer of fibromyalgia and fatigue, and I do get so upset to hear others say that it is a scam or even all in your head. However just recently the scientific community and the FDA has stated that this is in fact a true disease! And after much consideration as well as many years of he said she said they have finally realized that fibro is not a scam nor a joke and in in fact a true and honest disease just as lupus, arthritis, sjorgens and many others out their. So those of you that condemn this and say those who have this disease only thinks they are sick so shall it be. It is even more hurtful when your spouse does not take this seriously and decides that because of so many sites stating it is a make beleive sickness and that that person is only wanting attention or pity truly hurt’s those of us who suffer 90% of the time! So please stop saying it’s all in your head and realize that now the proof is in and it is now stated by the FDA it is a disease.

Okay. If fibromylgia isn't " all in the head", where is it? I checked at AFSA , and I still am trying to figure it out. Lupus, arthritis and Sjorgen's all demonstrate tissue pathology outside the central nervous system, not so for fibromyalgia. Any test or difference in fibromyalgia patients is found in the central nervous system, or in the head.

5. Stop watching TV (I know this may seem odd, but my finding is that people who watch lots of TV seem to have psychological and medical problems in greater percentages)

You may have a point there.. I have to tell ya, when I watched a lot of tv I constantly worried about symptoms of things that were nothing (Like a cold) because I had seen the latest "Talk to your doctor" add and I wondered if Gee.. could that be whats wrong with me? Life is much better now that I make a point of not watching much TV.. because the drug ads alone could scare you to death. lol
