I have been screaming about this for a while now. Somewhere in the belly of the beast known as the DNC they held a meeting of the minds (as if) and came up with an old idea. Start pinning the Republican Party to the religious right. They believe strongly that one of the major reasons they lost in 2000, 2002, and 2004 is that they never tried to make the case that the Republican party is run by religious zealots. Hence the newest trend in the MSM of using the word "evangelicals" all over the place. Its the new "gravitas".
To the left the word "evangelicals" conjures up images of Bible thumping charlatans. They think the word has the same effect on the masses.
Note the huge deal the MSM made out of Delay video being played at Church's last Sunday.
Its only just begun.

What they fail to realize, is that a majority of the voters either ARE evangelical, by self-description, or at least are perfectly comfortable with them. It's sort of like the intellectualoids who think they are insulting GW by calling him a "cowboy."
Most of us plain Americans like cowboys, and evangelicals, just fine, thanks.
