Thank you, Michelle Malkin! Finally--somebody gets it!
Laura Bush pandering to the lowbrow minds of the Washington press corps...something I never thought I would see from this usually gracious First Lady.
The American Spectator editors "got" it as well, with a take very similar to Malkin's. Certainly not behavior that we should expect from a First Lady at a public function. If you can't imagine Jackie Kennedy, Lady Bird Johnson, Pat Nixon, or Nancy Reagan saying it from the podium, it probably shouldn't be said. Of course, if you drink enough Kool-Aid, you'll rationalize it any way you can.
I guess you thought the First Lady was the 2nd coming of the Sainted Virgin Mary rather than an earthy Texas woman who apparently has a husband who is nuts about her. Pandering? Nah, having a good time. God knows she deserves one. And if it's in some faces here - too bad. It's many of the same ones who are constantly bashing the President for one reason or another.
