'Runaway Bride' Wilbanks Told [New Mexico] Police She Had Been Sexually Assaulted

The more that is learned about the tales the Georgia runaway bride told to Albuquerque police, the worse Jennifer Wilbanks deception appears. It turns out Wilbanks not only told the Albuquerque Police Department that she was kidnapped, but she also claimed she was raped.
Wilbanks later recanted both claims, but KRQE News 13 has learned that Wilbanks took the lie so far as to consent to a sexual assault examination.
'I think she just started telling a whole bunch of untruths and it just kind of snowballed,' says APD Sgt. Trish Ahrensfeld.
Police also say that Wilbanks told them she had just been in Texas. They later learned she had really stopped in Las Vegas, Nevada on her way from Atlanta, Georgia.
Even though KRQE 13 news has learned that Wilbanks did submit to a rape exam, Albuquerque's police chief maintains his department has no plans to file charges.
Her attorney announced Wednesday that Wilbanks will be issuing a public apology.

She has brought unwanted national attention to my quiet, little, Republican hometown of Duluth, GA. To quote Al Gore, "SHE PLAYED ON OUR FEARS!" :) Seriously, we're pretty bent, but proud of the way Mayor Lassiter and the police chief have conducted themselves. As for Wilbanks, she should move.
