Wilbanks Enters Treatment Program
WXIA-TV/DT Atlanta ^ | 5.10.05 | Ian Stinson

Jennifer Wilbanks, the runaway bride whose disappearance triggered a nationwide search, has entered a voluntary medical treatment program.

According to a statement from the family's church, "Ms. Wilbanks entered a highly regarded, inpatient treatment program on her own volition to address physical and mental issues which, she believes, played a major role in her 'running from herself' as she described in a public statement last week."

Wilbanks entered the program late Monday. The location of the program and suggested duration of treatment was not disclosed.

Wilbanks was already undergoing professional treatment. On May 5, the pastor for the Wilbanks family, Dr. Tom Smiley, read a statement from Jennifer Wilbanks. In the statement, Wilbanks said she, "started professional treatment voluntarily," for the problems that led her to run away.

Dr. Smiley said the treatment was "professional therapy with certified, competent professionals." Smiley did not go into details about the treatment.

Wilbanks, 32, touched off an extensive search in April when she disappeared after leaving her Duluth, Ga., home for a jog just four days before her scheduled wedding.

Wilbanks turned up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She told police she had been abducted, but she later told authorities she took a bus to Las Vegas and then Albuquerque on her own.

My daughter recently married into a family of Southern Baptists. Without a doubt they are all the nicest, warmest, most welcoming group of people.

We consider ourselves blessed.

I'm assuming the pastor who was giving Wilbanks and her fiance pre-marital counseling. When she disappeared, he took it upon himself to make an appearance before the reporters cameras covering the story, to tell the nation that he'd never counseled a couple so much in love. Showed an incredible lack of discernment.

If it is "sad" that I and others would like her punished for falsely claiming being kidnapped and filing a false rape charge then call me "sad."

I find it sad that so many are willing to embrace, forgive, and demand complete and total exonheration for criminal acts all because they feel "sorry" for her.

The only problem I see is that the whole lot of them have been enabling this grown woman for too long! Maybe a little tough love would have been the answer not treating her like she is a 15 yr old who doesn't get what she has done-like saying she didn't realize so many would be searching for her? Is she really that stupid? Thank God no kids were produced by this blithering idiot. Quit coddling her and let her take her lumps as should have been done with the first arrest not let it get this far at her age!

Except the ones who tell you your going to hell for a whole list of things they believe to be wrong. And it seems to be a virtually endless list.

What a sad commentary on some here.

I just don't get that hateful attitudes on here. It amazes me that many have fogotten who we are. I never understood all the photo's and comments on her eyes. How would you like to have to go through the crap she has gone through. And yes, she could have a mental illness or even physical, so why are we on here so quick to judge.

be very careful freepers...some of you are becoming what we don't like...

Well, she probably was going to have dinner after she ran ... so she went to Vegas on a bus to avoid the meal?

Maybe that's the "mental" part of it -- she wanted to disappear so she did, literally?

Have you not done something wrong in your life and then treated like you were a lepard? Just be careful little mouth what you say. I try to live by WWJD, and I know Jesus would welcome her into His arms. Believe me there are worse people out on trial at this moment who have done wrong in God's eyes, but He still loves even them.

I for one am a practicing Compassionate Conservative... most of the time.

Hey, I'm all for her getting help and treatment and being given forgiveness. Right after she serves jail time and pays back the taxpayers.

The fake disapperance is not what really got me going, it was the filing of false rape charges, including the completion of rape exam.

That is an extreme crime to falsely claim.
