Part of a retaining wall has collapsed over the NYC Parkway, the 'Henry Hudson Highway'?

Could be a nasty commute home. No evidence of terrorism.

Just the way my brain works and too lazy to look it up.

I'd estimate about three miles. 20 blocks to a mile in NYC. Empire State at 34th. HH Pkwy at around 100th.

IIRC.

Actually, IIRC from driving by, that particular patch has always looked a little untended, and I'm sure it's probably at least 50 years old if not more. At least I hope it's not new construction made with Mafia cement or anything like that...

I think it would be a miracle if no one is under that mound of dirt and debris. At 4 pm that road was crawling.

Oops...guess I'm about 5 miles off.

I'm sure someone will look it up on Mapquest.

Maybe they'll find Jimmy Hoffa under there.

I think the dirt would have slid any vehicles sideways,as opposed to just burrying them from above. But I'm no expert.

The GW Bridge is at 181st St. - that's supposedly where this happened. I think 8 miles would be more like it.

If one section is that shaky, I imagine the rest is also.
They'll probably close it for a coupla months and shore up the entire bank for??how many miles??

I'm an ex-New Yorker, and the infrastructure is so old there, it's a wonder there aren't more collapses of this kind, and of buildings and water mains, etc.

Looks like some NYC residents will need a SUV to get home.
