Today: Voinovich Not Tough Enough on Bolton for Lauer; Katie Kriticizes WH Intransigence
The Today Show | governsleast governsbest

Posted on 05/13/2005 4:39:40 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Think Ohio Republican George Voinovich has been too tough on John Bolton? Matt Lauer doesn't think he's been tough enough.

In an interview with Joe Biden, Lauer played a clip of Voinovich who, after trashing Bolton, added "I am not so arrogant to think that I should impose my judgment and perspective of the U.S. position in the world community on the rest of my colleagues."

Voinovich's unwillingness to go the last mile in the legislative lynching of Bolton apparently infuriated Lauer. He demanded of Biden, "but shouldn't Voinovich be willing to impose his views?"

Even the Plugmeister was unwilling to be quite as bloodthirsty as Lauer, expressing sympathy for Voinovich's situation as a Republican senator dealing with the nominee of a Republican president.

Biden described the Bolton nomination as a pay-off to conservatives for their electoral support of the President.

For 'balance,' Katie Couric then interviewed Joe Scarborough. While Scarborough is a former Republican congressman [from the FL panhandle], on his MSNBC TV show he touts his independence. He is anything but a counterweight to the fiercely partisan Biden.

Katie's take on matters: why is W being so intransigent on Bolton? Why doesn't W give in to the Joe Bidens of the world and sell Bolton down the river?

As Couric put it: "Why has the White House dug its heels in so deeply? Is it simply a war of wills, and less about Bolton?"

Katie is palpably incapable of imagining that the President truly believes Bolton is not only the best man for the job, but a crucial appointment to deal with a deeply corrupt organization. In a revealing fit of projection, Couric apparently cannot fathom someone proceeding on the basis of principled conviction.

When Scarborough offered something about the WH not being accustomed to losing, Katie rudely interrupted, getting back to her retreat-and-surrender theme of the day:

"The White House just won't back down, won't consider another nomination?"

Of course it never occured to Katie to ask the same question of Democrats.

I wish that Scarborough had mentioned that perhaps given the fact that the UN has literally stolen food and medicine from the mouths of the most needy, stolen tens of billions of dollars, and employees have raped women and children, that perhaps it's a GOOD thing to have a nominee who doesn't support the UN in its current formation.

Hey, Katie, isn't it about time that you screamed at, threatened, and fired another personal assistant? You can do this right after you denounce Bolton for allegedly mistreating staff.

Gee, next you'll be criticizing the Dems for engaging in the same kind of activities for which they are attacking Tom Delay! ;-)

Being a liberal means never having to be consistent.

I was listen to the John Batchleor show last night and it appears Voinovich has already started to back track a bit.

A few months ago I was driving home from NYC and for the first time caught John Batchelor, on WABC radio. Once I got past his effete tone, I was utterly impressed by his tremendous erudition. He has to be the most knowledgeable, informative person on radio. His knowledge of foreign affairs is stunningly encyclopedic.

I love his show. He usually has John Fund or Larry Kudlow on as a co-host.

Don't watch this trash.

I understand the sentiment, but as my tagline indicates, I do watch so that others don't have to. I believe it is useful to keep track of what the liberal media are up to.

As Couric put it: "Why has the White House dug its heels in so deeply? Is it simply a war of wills, and less about Bolton?"

Why didn't the perky ^*&%$# ask a question like this years ago, except with the wording changed to:

"Why have the dumbocrats dug their heels in so deeply? Is it simply a war of wills, and less about clinton getting BJs in the Oval Office?"

Nope. No media bias here.

Spot on! He does have a sort of nasal 'foie gras' delivery, but man the show is information packed. I also like the range of topics from international events and politics right on out to stories on the Mars rovers, etc.

Catie Colonic just doesn't understand what it means to stand on principle.

After all, she thought nothing of sleeping with a man married to someone else.

Principles, honor, integrity, are alien characteristics to the left.

How many innocents did Janet Reno order murdered at Waco? Biden was one of those who asked for her ouster, wasn't he?

Yes, and there was that chimpanzee with him, as well. J. Fred Muggs!

I think I liked the chimp better than Katie...he was definitely smarter.
