Today, May 26, 2005, the American public and people all over the world witnessed a spectacle on the floor of the US Senate. A US Senator from Ohio, Senator Voinovich, broke down on the floor of the Senate and cried as he expressed his opposition to President Bush's nomination for UN Ambassador, John Bolton. In his impassioned and (apparently) sincere plea, he cried and told America and the world how he was unwilling to "risk" our representation at the UN to Mr. Bolton, and how he, Senator Voinovich feared for his children and grandchildren.
Apparently in considering Mr. Bolton, Senator Voinovich was not present at the confirmation hearings where Bolton testafied and has not met with Mr. Bolton. This alone makes one suspicious of the true nature of today's spectacle.
But, a grandfather fearing for his children and grandchildren is not something to take lightly or cavalierly dismiss. As the father of five children, and the grandfather of three grandchildren with a fourth on the way, I know this to be true. So, I wanted, grandfather to grandfather...father to father...to respond to Senator Voinovich.
I understand his feelings. I too fear for my children and grandchildren.
But I do not fear having a man such as John Bolton as our Ambassador...I fear NOT having a man such as Mr. Bolton as our Ambassador to the UN.

It was sickening...and there are serious issues regarding its sincerity...very serious issues IMHO.
I fear for my children and future grandchildren too. That is why I support Bolton's nomination and, in fact, the eventual removal of the U.N. from U.S. soil, the withdrawal of the U.S. from the U.N., and hopefully the complete and total elimination of the U.N altogether.
That's good to hear. Randy needs all the help he can get. Kolbe worships the U.N. and has always voted in support of it in every way.
A Senator crying on the floor of the senate over an Appointment..... WUSSY!!!!! You know him and McGreevy have have something other than politics in common.

Where have the good men gone? Certainly not to Congress? There are a few exceptions. Zell Miller comes to mind. None are the caliber of our forefathers. Mores the pity.
Our hopes have been up a few times in the last 5 years; yet it is like there is a hole in the bucket we carry them in; and we fail to change buckets or to weld and repair it.
With over 50% either on welfare or working for the government, the time is short to have any effect on the direction we are swiftly moving.

Then by all means...the people of Ohio MUST turn him out! Particularly after this spectacle.
On the BLOG page where this thread links, I have corrected most of them. I was writing that pretty quickly with some emotion and a lot of typos and errors crept in.
That's the very spirit my friend. If millions of hard working, honest, God-fearing Americans would do that, we'd see these shenanigans end.

I agree. See my post 136. We have to face this challenge and crisis exactly for what it is...a war for the very essence of our Republic and way of life.
Good job Jeff, I'm with you. Voinovich was pathetic, a spectacle indeed, a shameful performance.

Vionovitch's pathetic spectacle is all the more indication of the manner of war we are in here on the home front for the very essence of our way of life and free society. Even while our soldiers fight foreign enemies over yonder, we are faced with domestic enemies of staggering proportions here, who have infiltrated beyond the perimeter into the very command structure.
