What I really want to know is the answer to the other mystery of the 1970's...
Who was D.B. Cooper? :)

Thanks for your reply. It was interesting. I agree that Nixon, as Chief Executive, has to be held responsible for the 'Ellsberg breakin' but, as I'm sure you know, there is considerable doubt that he knew of it a priori -- he probably didn't -- and it was ONLY Erhlichman, who had his own ass to protect, who claimed that Nixon had after-knowledge of the Ellsberg breakin. I guess we have to agree to disagree, at least partly because 'black bag' jobs and political espionage (LBJ had Hoover bug Nixon's election plane in the 1968 election) were pro forma in all Cold War presidencies. In my opinion, it was the unique beytrayal of the presidency (not Nixon, in particular), by the second-in-command at the FBI, that was necessary for the success of the congressional and media-inspired destruction of Nixon's administration. I think this factor will decisively shift the balance of historical opinion in Nixon's favour over the long haul. Thanks again for troubling to give me your views.

Reagan was shot and Haig pulled that "I'm in charge" gag.

One more mark against the F.B.I., blacker than the deeds of Hoover the martinet and blackmailer.
Nixon doesn't deserve any medals but his good deeds outweigh the "coverup that was worse than the crime".
He had good reason to be paranoid while in office, all of the Hollyweird lefties were out to get him. Their F.B.I. buddies helped the Commies and the Washington Compost out.

This will give CNN the chance to thoroughly air the whole Nixon impeachment thing at this point in time just in time for Hillary's campaign.
Thus, when the New York campaign (Clinton vs. Cox) heats up Cox will be discredited in advance.

Haig is on Fox now saying he believes that it was Felt.

They are refusing to confirm or deny. This from Reuters
Felt's daughter spoke to Woodward, who visited Felt in 1999, by phone more than a half-dozen times to discuss a potential joint announcement, Vanity Fair said.
But Woodward would often begin those conversations with a caveat, the magazine said, saying: "Just because I'm talking to you, I'm not admitting that he is who you think he is."
The magazine said Felt's daughter directly asked Woodward to reveal if her dad was Deep Throat.
"He wouldn't do that," his daughter Joan is quoted as saying. "I said 'If he's not, you can at least tell me that. We could put this to rest.' And he said 'I can't do that.'"
The magazine said Woodward was concerned that Felt's family was pushing Felt, whose health and mental sharpness were declining with age, toward exposure against his will.

What a complete and utter surprise that Haig (the actual "Deep Throat") would say the Felt was "Deep Throat"!
Nothing suspicious here, just move along...move along.
Cheers!

Woodward just confirmed Felt is the source.
To: Mo1
Other than the fact that Felt was not in a position to know all that "Deep Throat" knew, I agree completely...</sarcasm>
