My sympathies to Steve's family and friends. What a loss for our country and for all who knew him. May his family be comforted by the outpouring of prayers offered.

Would you guys mind putting this on your ping lists? I would appreciate it.

Done. And rangerwife has been added to the Snakeaters ping list for Special Forces, Rangers, SEALs, AF CC, CW, and P-jocks, Marine MEU-SOCS and other operators.

God Bless and keep SFC Steve Langmack, and may the others who've gone before him care for him now as others did for him in this life.

In heat of war, Steven Langmack's heart was with family

By Alex Fryer

Seattle Times staff reporter

Sgt. 1st Class Steven Langmack was killed in Iraq.

When Kennedy High School grad Steven Langmack told his mother he talked to an Army recruiter and wanted to join up, she agreed it was a good idea.

That was 15 years ago. "I just thought the military would give him a good physical outlet," said Louise Langmack of Seattle.

Langmack, 33, a sergeant in the Army Special Forces, was killed Tuesday in Iraq, the Defense Department said yesterday.

He died instantly, Army officials told his mother. He was on a combat mission near Al Qaim in western Iraq.

Sgt. Langmack grew up in the Seward Park neighborhood and graduated from Kennedy in 1990. He started on the school baseball team and was a "good all-round player," said his former coach, Joe Faccone.

"He was an outstanding kid," Faccone said. "He represented the school well. I'm proud to be associated with him."

After graduation, Sgt. Langmack decided to make the military a career and served in the Persian Gulf War.

After the Sept 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, he was assigned to Afghanistan. He was in Iraq about three months before he died.

Based at Special Operations Command in Fort Bragg, N.C., Sgt. Langmack didn't talk much about the war in his e-mails home.

Rather, he focused on his wife, Rachaelle, and their two children, Sam, 16, and Carson, 7, who live near the base.

He was renovating his home and often discussed the projects he had waiting for him.

"He was always upbeat. He felt very committed to what he was doing, but he wouldn't talk about it," his mother said. "He felt it was an important job."

In addition to his mother, wife and sons, Sgt. Langmack is survived by his father, Paul Langmack of Seattle, and his brothers David Langmack of Federal Way and Kevin Langmack of Seattle.

Sgt. Langmack will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery outside Washington, D.C., because the location is closer to his wife and sons.

Yesterday, as the family made funeral plans, Louise Langmack credited the military with giving structure and opportunity to her son's life.

On Memorial Day, she sent him an e-mail, saluting his service to the nation.

He never e-mailed back.

Judging from his bio, we were in Afghanistan at the same time, although our paths never crossed (2/7 had their own area, pretty much south and east of Kandahar in the homeland of the TB. It got pretty sporty towards the end of their tour).

My heart goes out to his wife and kids. Kids that age will one day appreciate that their Dad was a hero. But that day is far in the future, right now they are in a nightmare from which there is no waking.

"He has died for those oppressed."

Those of you who pray regularly for people like STeve and his family, thanks. People who don't pray regularly, well, do what suits you, which is what he fought for. I bet, though, that the Big Guy would be particularly pleased to hear from you right now.

John 1:1-3
"Let not your heart be troubled: you believe in God, believe also in me.
2. In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you maybe also."

I don't remember the names anymore, so I pray for our military and their families et al.

Every Wednesday night at prayer meeting, the first on my submitted list is ..
America, President Bush, our leaders and our military.

I know of no Christian that doesn't appreciate the sacrifice(s) our warriors and their families make, and the watch-care of our God for the grieving loved ones.

Heavenly Father, we unite and agree in prayer for the Steve Langmack family. Comfort and guide them in this seemingly lonely hour.

In Jesus' name and for His sake, Amen.
