The Official Spokesman of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Ambassador Atta El-Manan Bakhit, has stated that the confession by the southern command of the United States army on the occurrence of cases of desecration of the Holy Quran in Guantanamo prison was a confirmation of the practices that had been reported in the papers and strongly condemned by the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
He said that this disgraceful conduct of those soldiers reveal their blatant hatred and disdain for the religion of millions of Muslims all over the world and throws into doubt the nature of the instructions given to the American soldiers on religious values and principles of tolerance.
He added that these unequivocally rejected practices could only lead to an incitement of religious feelings and a deepening of the gulf of difference and intolerance between the Muslim world and the United States of America.
The OIC Spokesman urged the United States Government to live up to its responsibilities and not be lenient with the perpetrators of the desecration. He also demanded that those responsible for this despicable crime should be brought to justice immediately and that urgent measures should be taken to calm the tension in the Muslim world and ensure that such detestable acts are not repeated in the future.
WARNING: This is a high volume ping list
The next time they hold a conference, drop a MOAB on them and be done with it.
Besides, people's religious beliefs is not within the purview of the US government (see First Amendment) and if somebody thought it better to boot a Koran than read it, looks like a matter of personal religious preference and little more than that.
I agree with the OIC.
The Holy Quran should be treated by Americans with the same reverence that the holy book of most Americans is treated by Muslims.
And Muslims should certainly be given the same freedom to exercise their religion in America that people of other religions enjoy in Muslim lands.
(OK< what does that goofy writing mean?)
OKay. Then the editorial staff of Newsweak is to blame for filing libel. Let's not show them leniency. At all.
Next conference ask them what they're doing about destroying Bibles as official policy.
Tell the bastards when they stop killing Christians and Jews and desecrating ancient churches and holy sites, I might give a rats ass as to what they think. I would just feel good if our Reps would just get a backbone and say it.
There have been hundreds of bombings of Muslims, by other Muslims. When was the last time this Conference issued any objection to this carnage? Never, you say? Well, then I say they can go sh*t in their turbans.
Does that about cover the waterfront?
Congressman Billybob
Where are these hot shot artists that would put a Crucifix in a bottle of urine and call it art? Or the ones who threw dung at a picture of Mary and called it art?
Why don't they do this with the Koran? They must have no nads!!! Wimps!!!
They could probably get federal money to support their art.
So what do we do with the "detainee" that flushed his Koran down the toilet to plug up the system? Hmmmmmmm????
Hmmmmmm...maybe Letterman could use a Qur'an on his "Will it Float? segment.
OIC......KMA!
We're supposed to respect a book that teaches how to treat us infidels and Jews?
Well, to be fair one of them did make a movie....
Point taken. They know Christians wouldn't do the same so they feel free to desecrate any symbols of Christianity.
"He said that this disgraceful conduct of those soldiers reveal their blatant hatred and disdain for the religion of millions of Muslims all over the world and throws into doubt the nature of the instructions given to the American soldiers on religious values and principles of tolerance."
Oh, blah, blah, blah. He should look in a mirror to see "blatant hatred and disdain" for the religion of others.
For about 10 years of my life, the U.S. Army was my religion. I'm appalled that one of its latrines has been desecrated with a koran.
