(The perception of...)Health issues would keep him from being handed the nomination.

The rumor is that he's getting cleared by the docs, and will run if he gets a clean bill of health and a sense of decent support. It will make his VP selection pretty important, though.

If so, then say hello to Presidente Hillary.

I would not vote for McCain or Hillary. I actually hate McCain more. If the Republicans pick McCain, then they have committed Hari-kari politically.

Given the recent turn of media stories against Hillary, I doubt she'll be the 2008 candidate. McCain will never win enough in the GOP primaries to be the nominee. Guiliani might, but his personal history will likely be his undoing if he tries (besides, no mayor of NYC has ever been President).

Hillary will squash Kerry in the primaries. The media will be behind her as we receive endless news reports about what having Bill Clinton back as defacto President would be like. No one else will have the fundraising juice or star power to beat them. Hillary may even pick someone like Harold Ford as VP. Imagine the reporting:" First female President, First Black VP, First ex-President returinf to the WH, First 1st husband....blah blah blah"

Giuliani's personal life will not be an issue unless Republicans really want to commit suicide and have a bloody brutal primary battle. McCain will do far better than you imagine, who else will oppose him? It's a long way off, but I see these being a battle of the superstars.

Only a true conservative like Mike Pence who can unite social and fiscal conservatives can win in a landslide and put America on the conservative path.

Mike who? Name recognition will be the name of the game vs. Hillary.

Hillary will squash Kerry in the primaries.

In the running for 4th or 5th place, maybe. Hillary's only hope is to run virtually unopposed, as she's a horrible speaker and campaigner. The only assets she has are name recognition and money. I think that we'll see, as usual, a less-touted name rising to the top, possibly Evan Bayh (IN) given the DNC's new tack on "appearing" moderate.

Giuliani's personal life will not be an issue unless Republicans really want to commit suicide and have a bloody brutal primary battle.

If it's not vetted in the primary, the media will turn on Guiliani the second he gets the nomination. It's a liability, so it's best to see how much of a liability it is. besides, he's pro-choice, and therefore cannot win the GOP primary.

McCain will do far better than you imagine, who else will oppose him?

John McCain (Media-AZ) will do worse in 2008 than he did in 2000. He'll still have the media circus, of course, but if Guiliani enters the campaign, guess who becomes the new "golden boy"? Even without that, the media carries less and less weight inside the GOP over time. McCain will only fare well in "open primaries", and will get crushed shortly afterwards.

Look for the GOP to nominate a governor or former governor. My personal pick is Bill Owens (CO).

I don't think a true conservative can get elected to national office anymore. W is the best practically electable, a 'compassionate (meaning like government spending) conservative."

I don't think a true conservative can get elected to national office anymore.

Depends on your definition of "true conservative", I suppose, but successful Presidential candidates tend to be less ideological than their because they have to have broader appeal -- neither base is big enough to win on its own.

It's going to be Hillary vs. Giuliani or McCain.

Not a chance. I can see Rudy getting on the ticket as Veep, but McCain nuked his own Presidential aspirations when he and those 6 other RINO's sold out the President, Bill Frist, and the GOP base on the Constitutional Option. He burned his last bridge with the Right when he pulled that stunt. Chrissy Matthews may love him, but the people who vote in GOP primaries don't.

Right now, I've got George Allen as the favorite for the nomination. Being a former governor helps get around the Senate jinx.

"After the hype machine kicks in..."Good point.Never underestimate the power of the msm to manipulate public opinion.Unfortunately many people still rely on the network news, and rags like time and newsweek.

A GOPer with credibility? How about Tancredo?I know he's unknown to most, and i don't know a lot about him,but quite frankly he impresses me as having that rare quality(amongst polititians)which is refered to in the vernacular as "having b@lls".
