I think he waited until after he sent in Sandy Berger to stuff the incriminating ones into his shoes and pants and remove them from the records.

Hate to sound like a tinfoil hat wearer but Kerry's records had to be cleansed for him to release them now. And honestly I don't see what good this does him now. The democrats won't renominate this or any other loser for President.

You don't think the Boston Globe would sanitize the file before they make it public? Gimme a break.

I don't know Form 180 from Shinola but I would be that there is a place on it that names who the file is to be given to. Eventually it will come out that no one else can get a copy of the file except the one designated on that form.

I believe the Globe concerning the point that the Navy gave them Kerry's records based on Kerry's authorizing SF 180. What I don't believe is Kranish's analysis of those records. Kranish helped author a sympathetic biography of Kerry before the 2004 election. I will wait until the SBVFT receive those records before drawing any conclusions.

I did find the follow paragraph revealing:

For example, Kerry received his first Purple Heart for action on Dec. 2, 1968. Kerry told historian Douglas Brinkley that ''I never saw where the piece of shrapnel had come from." Kerry's critics have questioned whether the wound came from enemy fire, and his former commanding officer said the wound resembled a ''scratch." The file includes a previously reported reference to Kerry being treated for the wound and that he was awarded the Purple Heart, but it does not address the details of the combat that night. No after-action report for the incident has been found.

Kerry's immediate superiors never recommended him for the PH that night. No after action report was made because there was no hostile fire. The $64 question is who signed the paperwork recommending Kerry for the first PH. Kerry or someone submitted the info after his superiors had departed country. More information is needed and should be in those files. You can bet the SBVFT will be going over these files with a fine tooth comb.

Adm. William Schachte: 'No enemy fire' One of John Kerry's superior officers disputes the circumstances Kerry claims led to the awarding of his first Purple Heart

Blogs For Bush quotes John O'Neill as follows:

We called for Kerry to execute a form which would permit anyone to examine his full and unexpulgated military records at the Navy Department and the National Personnel Records Center. Instead he executed a form permitting his hometown paper to obtain the records currently at the Navy Department. The Navy Department previously indicated its records did not include various materials. This is hardly what we called for. If he did execute a complete release of all records we could then answer questions such as (1)Did he ever receive orders to Cambodia or file any report of such a mission (whether at Christmas or otherwise); (2) What was his discharge status between 1970 and 1978 (when he received a discharge) and was it affected by his meetings in 1970 and 1971 with the North Vietnamese? (3)why did he receive much later citations for medals purportedly signed by Secretary Lehman who said he did not know of them; (4) Are there Hostile Fire and Personnel Injured by Hostile Fire Reports for Kerry's Dec. 1968 Purple Heart (when the officer in charge of the boat Admiral Schacte, the treating Surgeon Louis Letsos, and Kerry's Division Commander deny there was hostile fire causing a scratch) awarded three months later under unknown circumstances.

I think he's just been busted.

The records, which the Navy Personnel Command provided to the Globe, are mostly a duplication of what Kerry released during his 2004 campaign for president, including numerous commendations from commanding officers who later criticized Kerry's Vietnam service.

And including the numerous discrepancies and unresolved issues that were never explained by Kerry the first time around--for instance:

Forging a Paper Hero: The Mystery of Kerry’s Medals

. . .the paperwork for Kerry’s Silver Star contains puzzling discrepancies. According to the original Silver Star citation bearing Admiral Zumwalt’s signature, “Lieutenant (junior grade) KERRY leaped ashore, pursued the man behind a hootch and killed him”. The original citation was later revised twice, and the two revisions omit any mention of Kerry shooting the man behind the hootch. The third version of the citation bears the signature of Reagan administration Secretary of the Navy John Lehman, who states, “It is a total mystery to me. I never saw it. I never signed it. I never approved it. And the additional language it contains was not written by me.”

Once again, Kerry is daodging, and the Globe is covering.

The complete set of records for Navy Officers discharged before 1994 are held at the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) in St. Louis. The Navy would have only a partial set in its files. The Globe claims only the Navy release, not the NPRC.

Also, one would need to see this Form 180 to see what records were not to be included, as there is a section in the form for those exclusions. The Globe is coy in not revealing the actual form 180 and the details on it.

Still to be explained are Kerry's wilderness years, 1970-72 and 1974-78, where there seems to be no paper trail of what he did or his points/credit earned. There is also a missing DD 214 which is probably the most important document for a serviceman's records.

Looks like the Globe took a lesson from the Dan Rather School of Obfuscation and Denial.

The ONLY way to obtain a true and complete version of the file is to have Senator Kerry sign a release and an SF180 allowing the bearer of the SF180 to obtain any and all of his Military Service Records from the National Personnel Records Center, a branch of the National Archives. The NPRC is the only Government organization that has and can release a copy of his complete personnel file.

You know what I like?

I like that fact that I have recognized Kerry as a piece of human waste for twenty years at least, and it took the rest of the country, millions of you, to see what I have been talking about all this time.

This 180 release is BS. If Kerry's DD 214 says that he was HD in the late 70's then we can all safely rest assured that there has been a clean up on this section eight's aisle.
