A lot of black folks love their church, especially the ones from the South that I know.

This is true, but why does religion and political choice have to follow in lock step? I've said it before, some of the most religious, conservative black people I know wouldn't be caught dead voting Republican, even though, when asked, they actually support everything the party stands for. I just couldn't be that much of a hypocrite.

What benefit do they get out of letting some white guy come to their church during the campaign, some white guy who'll never go there again, just to make promises, get their vote, and to leave? How hard is it for people to see that they're being used?

It's the preachers who control it. Basically, the party official goes to the church and makes a contribution to the collection (and he's already given a payment to the preacher) and then preacher then gets up and makes some speech, saying its the Christian duty to vote for whomever.

I don't get it either. One guy I talked to said he didn't like abortion but had no answer when I said why do you vote for democrats? i think a lot of black people are insecure. They know the democrats aren't good people but many are familiar with their hucksterisms BUT they won't go over to the republican party. It's fear. Fear of the unknown. I stopped inviting black people to a lot of the things I go to because the first question I get is 'are there going to be any black people there'? It's so tragic.
