When the KKK was at the height of its membership and power in the 1920s, with over two million members nationally (out of 125 million populations) there were large parades held on the streets of Washington D.C. Notice that the Confederate Battle Flag carried by the Army of Northern Virginia is not in evidence. The widespread use of the Battle Flag by the KKK did not occur until the 1960s. Here is the Flag that they carried most frequently...

So to be fair to Senator "Sheets" Byrd, his 'uniform' should only have the American Flag with 48 stars to be historically accurate. To show otherwise would be like a painting of George Washington in 2003 US Army desert battle-dress...
