Well heck O'Reilly reported that the chaparones who were supposed to be watching the kids left the island in a private plane before the kids.

Lack of clues frustrates missing teen's stepdad

Excerpt:

Twitty said the family had no misgivings about Natalee's trip with about 100 classmates. Seven chaperones traveled with the students. And Twitty pointed out that his son had traveled there with his high school class two years ago.

Like Twitty, Merrill said she was comfortable with the trip. It was planned by parents and travel agents. The students had check-in times, and the chaperones were there for emergencies.

"With just seven chaperones and all those kids, we'd be nuts if they thought they could do everything," Merrill said. "We know them. We trust them. We love them."

Okay... nothing there to dispute what O'Reilly reported.

Merrill said she prayed and trusted her son.

"He's 18 years old," she said. "I'm not perfect, he's not perfect. But he's a good, normal kid, and we have faith in him.

"To me, he deserved to be trusted to make his own mistakes and live with the consequences. That's the only way to learn," she said.

Says the students had check in times. I wonder when Natalee's last check in time was and if she kept it?

Merrill is right though. You love and trust yor kids and hope you taught them well, but ultimately you have to let them make their own mistakes and live with the consequences, or not as the case may be. :(
