Maybe we should get rid of the jury system and have professional jurors.

I wouldn't go that far. I might have a third lawyer or team to advise the jurors independent of the judge and prosecutors, although that is supposed to be part of the duties of the judge. I'd also let the jury ask questions during the trial, like the members of a military court can.

I know anyone who can push a stylus can vote in this country, but almost everyone can manage to avoid jury duty. People are thrown off for being too smart or having any familial connections to the law. And the ones who can't get out of jury duty or don't want to are the exact people who worship celebrities.

If Michael Jackson were not famous [even uber-famous], this exact jury would have convicted him of molestation and the alcohol charge, I am 100% certain.
