The greatest gift to the Republican Party since the left-liberal Democratic Party nominated George McGovern for president in 1972 has been the choice of Howard Dean as the party's national chairman and Democratic Party spokesman. Indeed, how lucky can you get? Richard M. Nixon's opponents used to ask about him: "Would you buy a used car from this man?" Listening to the ravings and rantings of Howard Dean, M.D., I thought of an updated version: "Would you allow this doctor to take your temperature?" My answer: I would not. Boom Box Dean has ignored the most important warning to doctors, an ancient warning which applies even more so to ambitious politicians: Primum Non Nocere, in English, "First, Do No Harm". When Mr. Dean, Vermont's five-term governor, ran for the Democratic presidential nomination, he began his campaign speeches with these words: "You don't know me." And as it turned out, Democratic voters nationally not only didn't know him, they didn't want to know him. On many American college campuses, there is a period in the fall semester called Fraternity Rush Week when prospective members are invited to visit fraternity houses for a look-see. Antisocial members are hidden away in the fraternity house basement so as not to discourage prospective rushees. Instead of hiding Boom Box Dean in the basement before the next election, Democrats, blessed with a fine suicidal instinct, handed the Republican Party a gift: they chose Mr. Dean as its chairman and fund-raiser. At a time when as partisan a Democrat as Hillary Clinton, dreaming of 2008, has piped down, hoping thus to persuade the electorate she is a moderate, Boom Box Dean comes along and fouls up her campaign.

Problem is he's a set-up -- Hillary is planning to de-throne him at just the right time so she can look like a "moderate" and a hero.
Then the GOP's gift to the Democrat party must be the big government global socialist, George W. Bush.
Yes, they've gotten SO much accomplished running for office in a government they don't believe in.
Vote Libertarian--it gives you more exercise than staying at home and watching TV on election day, and is just as useful to the Democrats! :D

Sadly, the Conservatives lead by the courageous and unforgettable Winston Churchill were thrown out of office that year.
A quick reference shows some interesting similarities of the issues at hand then and now.

So what if Dean is leading fundraising? The Demoncrats have Soros and his gang to fund their campaign. Repubs need to kill McCain-Feingold, then they can talk.

And while being dismayed at the direction of the current pubs, I am more dismayed with the Libertarians.

The liberal base of the the democratic party is no more pleased with the performance of Congressional democrats than the conservative base of the GOP is pleased with theirs. The libs think Congressional dems have not fought hard enough and have given in to Tom Delay and George Bush in too many areas. Congressional dems are unhappy with Dean, not because of what he says (which will be long forgotten in 2008), but because he is overshadowing them and seizing the leadership of the ideological base of the party.
You are correct sir. However, who in the public square can name Dean's counterpart in the republican party (no googling). Sure the majority here know but joe public is blissfully unaware.
Bashing Dean, heck even listening to Dean gives the Democrats the stage and the spotlight. Say enough crap and some will stick.
NO, the excuse of attacking your moniker has to do more with the fact that Libets. ideas are just as much losers as the libs.

Republican counterpart... it's very relative, IMO. Strategically, I'd say Bush himself, despite what a liberal he's been, he's perceived as conservative. Some knee-jerk answers would be Cheney or Delay.

This is right on. Dems know they have to disquise the way they really feel and think to get their ideas out with any success. Dean is brutally honest along with the other wacko leftist loons in the party and he is slowly but surely destroying any hopeful message the cons. mainstream dems may have.
In other words, the TRUTH hurts!

The good thing is that this may rip that party apart... You know the kook fringe salivate in having Dean. If queen Hellary comes in and replaces him it could blow this thing wide open.
