"The last time the nation was this polarized was just before the Civil War,and i think were going to have another one."You may be right.A few years ago i would have thought that a (Civil War)could never happen again.Something needs to be done.Our country is being destroyed from the inside out.
If I may offer Lincoln's prophetic words on this....especially the last five sentences.... "Abraham Lincoln, 27 January 1838: " "At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years. At what point, then, is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. I lived in the South for almost a decade, and the socioeconomic and cultural disconnect that exists between the regions is stunning.
When I go home to the Rust Belt, there's a desperation about the place. Even the upper middle class people I went to high school and college with seem to be just skating by. It's insidious. Nothing seems to be the same as it was even twenty years ago.
When I go back to Dallas or travel to the burbs of Atlanta or Raleigh or DC, those areas seem so prosperous. I see new cars and houses everywhere and money seems to have no value.
We need some strong, centrist leadership in the worst way imaginable, but I don't know how it's ever going to happen.
What we need is a modern day Eisenhower...and a US Congress to back him up.
