Mark Steyn: Durbin slanders his own country
Chicago Sun Times ^ | June 19, 2005 | MARK STEYN

Posted on 06/19/2005 2:37:10 AM PDT by mal

Throughout the last campaign season, senior Democrats had a standard line in their speeches, usually delivered with righteous anger, about how "nobody has a right to question my patriotism!" Given that nobody was questioning their patriotism, it seemed an odd thing to harp on about. But, aware of their touchiness on the subject, I hasten to add that in what follows I am not questioning Dick Durbin's patriotism, at least not for the first couple of paragraphs. Instead, I'll begin by questioning his sanity.

Last Tuesday, Senator Durbin, Democrat of Illinois, quoted a report of U.S. "atrocities" at Guantanamo and then added:

"If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime -- Pol Pot or others -- that had no concern for human beings."

Er, well, your average low-wattage senator might. But I wouldn't. The "atrocities" he enumerated -- "Not only was the temperature unbearably hot, but extremely loud rap music was being played in the room" -- are not characteristic of the Nazis, the Soviets or Pol Pot, and, at the end, the body count in Gitmo was a lot lower. That's to say, it was zero, which would have been counted a poor day's work in Auschwitz or Siberia or the killing fields of Cambodia.

Good morning.
"Or do they not mind pissing off people who volunteer to kill evil-doers?"

One trait of liberals that drives me crazy is their lack of survival instincts.

They soil their own cage and they piss off the people who have to clean up their messes. Eventually the cleaners will grow tired of the abuse.

When the hammer falls the left will blame everyone but themselves.

"Not only was the temperature unbearably hot, but extremely loud rap music was being played in the room" .......

Sounds like the average South-side Chicago nightclub...

In a nutshell NO! They will come up with an 'over the top' or an 'unfortunate statement' - as they wink knowingly to 'my good friend accross the aisle'! makes you want to vommit - gutless, lying 'carnies'.

I wish some military veteran would beat the crap out of him so that he looks like the whistleblower at Los Alamos.

I would also unofficially endorse a vet-applied, old-fashioned (and well-deserved) crap dislodgement session for the senior Senator from the State of Illinois.

I'd prefer it to happen right after he is censured and cashiered from the Senate.

I grew up in Il and left in 1972, but still have friends and relatives In the Chi area.

It always amazes me how faithful these folks to any of those who have a D after their names- even crooks like Otto Kerner, Paul Powell, and Dan Rostenkowski. (I know, I'm showing my age just a bit)

Obama has to be th emost overrated politician to come out of Ill in a long time. What the heck has he ever done? I did hear his speech at the Dem's convention. I guess it proves the superficiality of his party.

This will generate some letters to the editor in Chi-town. Somebody should post them and ping the Steyn list.

E-mail is usually thrown out if it is not from Durbin's state. Fax or phone and thank him for putting our men and women in even more danger. Ask when he is planning his first trip to Gitmo and will he partake of the gormet food the murderous combatants eat or will he east the "abusive" MREs our military have to eat.

Fax: (202)228-0400
Phone: (202) 224-2152

There are 10 Jewish Democrat Senators and two Jewish Republican Senators, and not one of the 12 have asked for an apology from Turban Durbin.....HYPOCRITES! They would rather stand together as Senators!!
