Today: Katie Couric MIA - Could this be Beginning of End?
The Today Show | governsleast governsbest

Could something be up at The Today Show?

The show has been hit with successive waves of bad news. First, falling ratings as Good Morning America with Diane Sawyer narrows the gap and even beats Today in some markets. Next, a series of articles painting Katie Couric as a self-centered prima donna at war with Matt Lauer and responsible for the axing of various show execs.

Katie missed a few shows last week, and granted, that's not unusual. The show explained she was "on assignment," and perhaps she was. But this morning, Katie was missing again, and this time there was no explanation, just Campbell Brown in her seat. For that matter, Ann Curry, Today's regular news reader, was also out, though in her case it was stated that she was "on assignment."

Could something be up? We'll be watching.

By the way, the final segment of the first half-hour focused on Joe Biden effectively throwing his hat into the ring over the weekend for the Democratic presidential nomination.

It's just my opinion, but given Biden's personal history, I'm not sure his announcement line was necessarily the best move: "I'm Joe Biden, and I'm reporting for duty." ;-)

Isn't she on assignment interviewing the runaway bride? That's their big scoop this week - I must have seen them advertise it 1000 times this weekend.

Darn, you're right - that's probably it, and she'll be back with a vengeance tomorrow with her huge exclusive.

Call off the search party, everyone. As SW6906 has pointed out, Katie has a huge exclusive interview coming up, I believe tomorrow and Wednesday, with the Runaway Bride, and that almost surely explains her absence. Oh well.

Hmmmm. Thanks to your selfless efforts in giving us these reports, I know that she is missing. Otherwise, I wouldn't know the difference!

By the way, several weeks ago I saw her by accident at my son's home, before I got the TV channel changed. She had on a droopy dress (black, of course) and ANKLE-STRAP shoes.

One who has short legs should not wear those shoes, as they tend to make one's legs look shorter and wider. Plus they are trashy looking.

Oh well, if the notion of Katie-on-her-way-out is blown, I hope at least people will get a chuckle out of my Biden joke ;-)

It's not just her - the whole lot of them need to go.

I believe there is an unprintable name for those kind of strappy high-heels. Trashy indeed!

Gawd--the runaway bride story is sooo three weeks ago. Hasn't everyone tired of this poor little rich girl's sob story?

And, if they REALLY want to see a jump in their ratings, just put Laura Ingraham in Katie's seat. I would never listen to Imus again...

Since we're seguing to the Runaway Bride, from what I've seen her non-apology apologies reflect how immature and self-centered she remains. Doesn't seem as if she's really learned much from the experience or is truly contrite. I suppose she figures shy should she be since the end result has been to make her rich and famous?

If someone told me that my next story was the "Runaway Bride", I'd be writing up my resume. That's about as low as you can go.

Today is on the TV at the place I go to breakfast sometimes. I've always gotten the impression that Lauer's job is to make Katie look smart-by-comparison.

It seems odd that she'd be at war with him, as they'd be hard pressed to find a similar replacement that could breathe without illustrated instructions.

She's probably at her mansion in the Hamptons.

Wow, Katie must be pi**ed! She has to do the Runaway bride story rather than The DSM story or Turban Durbin?

Katie must find if difficult to trash the USA ,the President, and our Troops in the context of the Runaway Bride! (but I'm sure she will find a way)

She's probably locked up with Hillary and a bunch of other MSM sycophants prepping for the Klein rebuttals.
