SUV Drivers Not Patriotic, Survey Finds
Percentage Considering SUV Hits Three-Year Low
POSTED: 4:49 pm EDT June 27, 2005
Ninety percent of people in the market say that people who buy SUVs should not be called patriotic.
Kelley Blue Book's third annual New-Vehicle Buyer Attitude Study found that over the last year the number who said SUV drivers are patriotic dropped 12 percentage points, the group said in a news release.
Also, the number of shoppers considering an SUV fell to 34 percent, the lowest level in three years. There was some grown in interest in small SUVs, however.
High fuel prices were cited in a news release as the reason for the lack of interest in larger vehicles. Thirty-seven percent also said they worry that big SUVs hurt the country by increasing dependence on foreign oil.
"Over the longer term the domestic car manufacturers will have to reconcile themselves to the fact that American consumers seem less enamored of big SUVs than any time in memory," said Kelley editorial director Jack R. Nerad.
Many, including myself, would not claim that SUV drivers should be called patriotic. (I'm sure Richard Durbin owns one).
But that is different that saying that SUV owners are not patriotic.
Certainly SUV drivers on the whole are more patriotic than Prius driving hippylibs.
Nearly all SUV's I see in my area have flags and/or troop support ribbons, etc. Mine included.
Please let it stop! If ever there was a pro-lib, pro-environmental, worthless piece of "news" ever written, it is this article. All that is needed on the bottom of the article is a DNC, ACLU, Greenpeace watermark.
File this one under "who cares?".
This is in the running for "stupidest poll ever."
(Go CHIPS!)
LOL
I own 2 SUVs and another Concorde. yeah I think I qualify as patriotic too....
I think the more appropriate file would be "Male Bovine Excrement"
Good Lord, who did they sample, the detainees at Gitmo?
Hell, I'm no fan of SUVs, but to characterize someone as "unpatriotic" because they own one makes as much sense as blaming rain on wet streets.
"Well, those are my principles. And if you don't like them, well, I have others." -Groucho Marx
Gotta go now.
lp,
Interesting.
I'm curious to see some other polls, like what percentage of Prius buyers are homos? Or how many SUV buyers are registered Democrats?
I agree with the premise. All my friends, acquaintances, and co-workers who drive SUVs are liberal and therefore unpatriotic. Therefore the premise is demonstrated. Yeah I live in Broward county.
Okay, I just sold my SUV! Whew, I'm glad someone told me that others think me unpatriotic because of it.
I bought a nuclear-powered tank instead. That should clear it up nicely.
/sarcasm
push polling if ive ever seen it
Who cares whether SUV drivers are "patriotic"? If I was deciding on a car to buy, my decision would not be based on what some leftist punk thought of me.
SEZ WHO?
Hanoi John Kerry owns and SUV.
