He's trying to instill self-respect and self-support among blacks. The more who begin respecting and supporting themselves, the worse it is for the Democrats, whose handouts have become just about the only reason anyone sane would vote for them.

White liberals and their poverty pimp friends don't like the way they hold the black community hostage to the government and the racial grievance industry EVER be questioned. It threatens their power. That's why they'll attack mercilessly even a liberal like Bill Cosby who steps out of line. If blacks start concluding their can make it on their own and don't need to look for handouts from Da Man, the liberals and poverty pimps become irrelevant. They don't care about black people - they're just another tool. But people like Cosby who genuinely want to make a difference - that they find intolerable.
