Hubbard was clearly mentally ill himself. However, in his defense, I'll note that psychiatry in 1955 was still a primitive and scary field. They were still prone to doing bungled frontal lobotomies (like the one on the poor Kennedy girl, who was simply mildly retarded), which often left people virtual vegetables. For Scientology to pretend that 1995 psychiatry and 21st century psychiatry are comparable is absurd (but then, what aspect of their teachings aren't?).
I have no doubt meditation would calm me, slow me, and help me. But I can't figure out how to start. Every time I sit quietly, my brain races.
In TM you learn to ignor the racing of thoughts in the mind. (Yes, meditators have thoughts, and as soon as they see the distraction, they go back to meditating.) What meditators do to help with finding solutions to all the problems of the day when meditating is to think on a single bland thought. (Say a mantra, a meaningless phrase, over and over in time with the breath, or stare at a mandala, an object of art that is attracting to the eyes and at the same time has no discernable meaning.) Thats all there is to it, except to allow the distractions and thoughts to fall away from the mind like water off a turtles back. When it is time to stop, usually about 20 minutes, you simply stop meditating and give yourself w few minutes to "get back into the day to day stuff.
Disclaimer, There is probably more here and going to an organized center will help if what I said simply does not work. In the TM organization they assign specific "trainers" who are schooled in what works and what to do if something is not right. They want to insure your experience is satisfactory.
Yes, I believe that is part of what makes for success or failure. and yes, send me the paper when you are done. Thanks in advance.
==Back in the old days when I was growing up, mothers had their little helpers in Valium. Then the Moms had to get off the stuff, so the children were medicated instead. Now both generations are on drugs.
LOL :o)....but true :o(
"Scientology's War on Psychiatry: Stranger than Fiction"
Scientology hate the competition as it tries to do a number on people's heads to get to their money.
She was so depressed over the weekend (proir to killing her children) that she couldn't accompany her children to a neighborhood party.
I don't think she was being treated by Scientologists.
Hubbard made up this nonsense on a bar bet. Only Hollywood could be so freaking gullible as to give up a fortune for this kind of dingo's kidneys. If you want to see Scientology's "good twin", check out The Church of the Sub Genius. All the laughs, all the nonsense, nobody gets hurt or has to be mind wiped by aliens.
I, for one, bow down to the Great Head of Bob Dobbs and implore him for Slack!
