Some may consider me a "heretic" for saying this, but I don't believe it can be said with certainty that people who die *without* ever hearing of Jesus Christ (the gospel message) are going to hell.

Then I suppose Christ's life was just a big waste of time.< / sarcasm>

Round 2..

Can you say *with certainty* that all aborted babies are in hell?

Yes or no?

BTW, please do not condescend to me as if I do not know my own Savior.

That's not Christ-like, and you know it.

Is this a debate of salvation or of one that has never heard of Jesus? I do wonder that. Yet for all of the ones that wish to misinterpret Jesus words it becomes; Jesus is one way to get heaven. They wish to beleive the Jesus is not the only way.

So yes we do need to maintain that if you have heard of Jesus that is the decision. Will Jesus be the way for ME? If you have not heard, you will need to trust that the creator will bring you word of his plan!

The ones that never heard, those are hard to balance. Romans 9 suggests that God is soveirgn beyound our capacity to understand the ability for him to balance this with his love.

I have heard that the ten commandments are written in the heart of every man.
So an Indian deep in the jungle of the Amazon that lives and dies with out ever hearing the gospel will be judged by Jesus Christ, (The Father and Christ are one in the same) according to what's in his heart.

Damning all people who have never had a chance at hearing the message would not be a just and merciful God, if this was without some merit.

I think this is what Graham might have been referring to.

Minium "donation" for a CrossTalk program is $5

I think I'll give the money to Rev. Graham.

I had no problems downloading a wave file of the broad cast for free. Plus there are several people that have done a transcript of the relevent section. B Grahm and his statements are about 5-15 minutes into the broadcast the rest is talk and call ins.

God is more understandable through his word than you might think. Just read it. Try and get rid of preconceived notions and read it. Start with John, then read genesis. You will understand it.

Christ spoke these words as well, which to my mind bear upon the situation in question:

Luke 12:47 that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
12:48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

Gee, I hope all you militant Christians put half the energy into fighting for a conservative Supreme Court justice as you do into blathering about heaven and hell.

And give Billy Graham a break. He preaches the positive Gospel message, reaching millions throughout his lifetime.

Yep. Make Billy Graham out to besome Liberal, and Felt (Deepthroat) out to be a hero. Revisionist History even before they're dead.

On the other hand, I did see Billy on his interview with Larry King. He made it obvious that homosexuality and abortion is a sin (was kind of dumbfounded at the question like "Well, of course it is wrong.") But also went on to say that he won't judge people for it - that's God's job, and that we ALL have sinned.

I wonder if the "quote" wasn't in that same spirit, perhaps something like: "Well OF COURSE the only way to enter into heaven is to believe in Jesus - but different people come to know Jesus in different ways. I'm not the judge on that - only God can be."

indicates that God will deal more with the Jews and even perhaps save all of them, but they are not saved as of yet because they have REJECTED Christ just like everybody

Jews are not under a different covenant than the rest of us. If a Jew rejects Christ, he is no more saved, or WILL BE saved, than a Muslimif he continues to reject Him.

Perhaps "save all of them"?? I would really hate to see what God would do to Jews if they shouted to him: "But..but..we went through the Holocaust! We don't need Jesus!".

Well, the way I read the chapter, they will eventually accept him and be saved. I could be wrong; it is not an issue I have studied much and I would need to see other commentaries on that chapter.

What's your problem with Robert Schuler?

"To be born again means that we must be changed from a negative to a positive self-image -- from inferiority to self-esteem, from fear to love, from doubt to trust." (Robert Schuller, "Self-Esteem: the New Reformation," page 68)

Heresy.

>>I have heard that the ten commandments are written in the heart of every man.<<

You are correct. But whether we accept or reject the notions they give us is our choice.

>>So an Indian deep in the jungle of the Amazon that lives and dies with out ever hearing the gospel will be judged by Jesus Christ, (The Father and Christ are one in the same) according to what's in his heart.<<

Incorrect. There are two types of Revelation from God. General (natural) and Redemptive (super-natural). Salvation cannot come from a general revelation (ie, looking at nature, and thinking that there must be "something" behind all of it), it can only come from the redemptive revelation wherein the Holy Spirit affects the heart of the sinner, they are made to see their iniquities, and know that they need a savior.

I submit that since God is 100% and entirely Sovereign, if he means for an indian deep in the jungle of the Amazon to receive His word, He will condition a way for such a revelation to occur.

Simply sitting in the woods and looking at the trees, yet living a "good life" ("there is no one who does good" - Ps 14:3) will not bring about salvation because apart from Him (Jesus) you can do nothing on your own.

>>according to what's in his heart.<<

If he doesn't have the salvation of Jesus in his heart, there's only one place he's going. That's an uncomfortable truth to get around, but it's indeed the Biblical Truth (which is why so many pastors are loath to talk about it - it's not exactly the "feel good" message that fills pews).

>>Damning all people who have never had a chance at hearing the message would not be a just and merciful God, if this was without some merit.<<

We, simple, sinful mortals are in no position whatsoever to judge God's fairness or mercy. You make such a judgement from a worldy point of view, which simple cannot measure up to His infinite wisdom and plan.

He will do as He will. He calls whom He chooses, He lifts up and strikes down whom He chooses, wherever He chooses. Our responsibility is to love Him with all our heart, mind, body and soul; to love our neighbor as ourselves; and to spread the Gospel.

Sorry to offend or upset you, but to many of us, this is literally "life and death" stuff here.

>>He preaches the positive Gospel message, reaching millions throughout his lifetime.<<

The Pharisees went far and wide to win converts, but since they were not preaching the Truth, Jesus said "you make them twice as much a child of hell as yourselves!" (Matthew 23:15)

Teachers of the word will be judged by God more strictly - James 3:1. So, if Graham is not preaching the Truth, and is instead preaching a soft, weak, and utterly false message of watered-down salvation, then he's entirely in the wrong - it doesn't matter how many people he's reaching, he's still giving them dirty water.
