A few hours before Parliament voted to legalize same sex marriage on June 28, Frank McKenna, Canadas ambassador to the United States went on American University Radio, a National Public Radio station in Washington D.C. During his one hour appearance on the Diane Rehm Show, McKenna spoke on a variety of issues from the war in Iraq to trade to Mad Cow disease. When a listener sent an email to the show that mentioned same sex marriage, the Ambassador said the following:

Ummm, well we do, as part of the human right of self defense.
Just so. We have an "inalienable" right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and that requires the ability to defend ourselves against tyrannical governments.
That was clearly the thinking of the founders.
The Canadian charter of rights, as interpreted by the courts....
I guess Canada has their activist judges too.
Strategically, militarily, economically, could you ask another government to do more to destroy their birth rates, and 'Annual military manpower availability'?
I think not.
