"(btw, my comments about violence yesterday were in accordance with the rules of FR..........not from any arrogance as you implied)."

First things first. The thread wasn't pulled, so obviously the moderator thought the comments were within the spirit of FR. Therefore, it's logical to assume you were being overly sensitive. Then you asked me to rephrase before you'd address my question. To me, that is a little condescending right there. I'd rather you didn't respond then tell me to rephase my question. Having said that, I do like to debate. I will defend my positions, and I try to learn.

"do you seriously think that, if we had the technology in WWII to defeat Hitler and win the war without killing innocent German women and children, that we would not have done so?"

I think you do what you have to in war. We don't target women and children, as muslims do. However, war can be ugly, and there will be times of collateral damage. Is the life of a civilian worth more than the life of a soldier? We did drop atomic bombs on Japan. We had the ability to defeat Japan without using atomic weapons.
Also, this is a different kind of war, a different enemy. There is no "Hitler" to defeat. If we captured and executed Osama bin Laden tomorrow, the war would continue on. The combatants on the muslim side can and will be women and children with bombs strapped to their backs.
I'm telling you, we need to steel ourselves and prepare to do what we need to, however distasteful, or be prepared to learn the Koran.

"Do you think that the babies and toddlers of Muslims should be indiscriminately slaughtered because their fathers follow the Koran? Really?"

Now you get emotional. No, I never advocated that. But in war, ugly things happen. I don't say this lightly. I value all life. But, if civilians die in a necessary action, like the action in Falujah, I won't wring my hands. The enemy would gleefully kill our children. I would advocate targeting military targets, but if they sheild themselves with innocents, I'd kill them rather than allow them to kill our soldiers.
Part of what went wrong in VietNam is we kneecapped our military and wouldn't allow them to really fight. We had to be politically correct, and sensitive.

War can be likened to a street fight. Avoid it at all costs. If you get into it, you WILL get bloody. However, once you start, fight will all you have, or you will take a beating.

We had the ability to defeat Japan without using atomic weapons.

But not without losing far more of our troops, and possibly far more Japanese civilians who were going to fight to the last man, woman and child to defend their homeland.

You make many good points, but this is not Viet Nam, and we will not, IMO, let PC motives keep us from winning outright.........unless we let a leftist get into the Whitehouse before it's over, who will keep our military from doing what it's trained to do.

I understand that, like the Viet Cong, militant Islamics will strap bombs to children, but is that happening now in Afghanistan or Iraq? And if it were, would it be condoned by the majority of the Muslim community there? (Keep in mind that in most of Iraq, the war is over and we have won).

It is still my position that in this war at this point in time our brilliant military has the capability to minimize the loss of innocent life (and yes, I believe Muslim babies and toddlers are innocent), and that is exactly what we should be doing.

This is a long process, but I firmly believe that freeing Middle East countries from tyranny and empowering them with freedom will have a profound effect on them.

Islam is a false, violent religion, but........as I have discussed with toby.........the people who are born in the Middle East are no more innately sinful than we are. They need to be freed from their darkness.

Just for the record, I am a Christian (a follower of Jesus Christ, that is), and I believe in the Scriptures. Islam doesn't win in the end. It's already been written. The battle belongs to the LORD!

(And GO BROWNS! ;)
