Hey guys, Im a young republican, and maybe its just that I'm young and confused, or maybe its because I can't get a straight fix on this story. But my question is, wtf happened? Was there a leak? What did Rove do? What is the straight story? All I hear is that there was a leak of a CIA agents wife's name that was undercover. Why are the Dem's making a big deal of this? I feel as if them making a big deal out of it would be putting the identity of the agent more in jeapordy than Carl Rove saying the ladies name. Im just confused. So did Carl Rove say, "Oh, so and so is an undercover CIA agent"

WHY CANT THE MEDIA GIVE ME A STRAIGHT STORY ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED?

Okay...here's the scoop. Rove did not "out" a covert agent. She had not been covert for nine years as she was outed by Aldrich Ames prior to 1994 and then again by the Cubans. She was assigned a desk job as an analyst at that time.

The identity of CIA officer Valerie Plame was compromised twice before her name appeared in a news column that triggered a federal illegal-disclosure investigation, U.S. officials say.
Mrs. Plame's identity as an undercover CIA officer was first disclosed to Russia in the mid-1990s by a Moscow spy, said officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity. In a second compromise, officials said a more recent inadvertent disclosure resulted in references to Mrs. Plame in confidential documents sent by the CIA to the U.S. Interests Section of the Swiss Embassy in Havana.
The documents were supposed to be sealed from the Cuban government, but intelligence officials said the Cubans read the classified material and learned the secrets contained in them, the officials said.

She would have had to have been covert in the last five years for Rove to have broken the law.

Cooper called Rove about a story he was doing on welfare reform and then "casually" brought up the rumor that Dick Cheney had sent Wilson to Niger at the end of the conversation. So the speculation by the MSM that Rove was "peddling" the story to out Plame was false. Rove merely warned Cooper that the Times should stay away from publishing things that were going to be established as false. He told him that Cheney did not send Wilson to Niger, that Wilson's wife, who was with the "agency" recommended Wilson for that trip. He never named her by name. Contrary to MSM reports saying Rove signed a waiver "at the 11th hour", he actually signed a blanket waiver last December giving all of the journalists permission to reveal their conversations with him to the Grand Jury.

There are always leaks. The MSM complains that the Bush WH is the most secretive administration of any President, ever, cuz it doesn't leak enough.

What did Rove do? What is the straight story?

So far, all that is known is that he talked to Cooper. The MSM was on the hunt for Cheney, because of a story Wilson was selling. Wilson claimed that Cheney's office sent him to Africa to check the story on Iraq shopping for yellowcake there. Rove told Cooper than Cheney & his office had nothing to do with it, that the order to send Wilson came from Wilson's wife. Rove got caught telling a reporter the truth.

The wife was the agent. How undercover she was... That would be the question. This story goes back to Wilson, his claim about the yellowcake & the 16 words that made it into the State of the Union address. Wilson's wife is CIA & the story goes that she was "outted" in retaliation for "standing up" against the WH claims of Iraq shopping for Uranium in Africa.

Why are the Dem's making a big deal of this?

They think they're going to get political capital. If they can drag down "Bush's brain", all the better.

Rove may not have known that she was supposed to be undercover. By the time this story broke, she was more management than undercover.

The media doesn't want to tell the straight story, cuz it's not very sexy & won't sell many papers. They want to tell you something big & juicy. Republican blood in the water always results in a feeding frenzy.
