Vaccine Tie to Autism Gains New Supporters

The decade-long debate over what has caused this country's frightening spike of childhood autism once again is exploding…

Reigniting the debate is the much-publicized book "Evidence of Harm" by David Kirby, as well as the report titled "Deadly Immunity" by environmental attorney Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

In brief, Kirby and Kennedy argue that federal health officials, with the help of vaccine-makers and some in Congress, have deliberately downplayed, even covered up, evidence that thimerosal - a preservative containing mercury - in childhood vaccines is the prime trigger behind the explosion of autism in U.S. children the last 15 years.

Although thimerosal was first added to baby vaccines as long ago as the 1930s, preschoolers typically received no more than three shots throughout the subsequent five decades.

But, by the early '90s, that exposure changed, with most children getting up to 23 shots against 12 diseases by age 2 all laced with mercury, a metal known to cause brain damage.

And so was launched the "Thimerosal Generation," according to the Kennedy report - children born between 1989 and 2003, when estimated cases of autism jumped an astounding 15-fold, from one in every 2,500 children to one in 166 today. ationwide, 500,000 children now are struggling with some form of autism - a syndrome of behavioral abnormalities marked by withdrawal from contact, loss of communication and developmental regression...

THis is bull. Autism has gone up even though the offending element has been removed from the vaccines for a number of years.

Try correlating the increase in autism diagnoses with the amount of taxpayer-funded services available to those with the diagnosis. When you pay people for something, you get more of it.

Do you have a link to info that shows the offending element was removed? Not questioning you but know some folks with autistic kids.

Go to skeptico.com or respectful insolence where this is thoroughly discussed. There are Dutch studies that show their autism rate is increasing even though Thimersol has been banned for decades from their vaccines Usually this means that it is being diagnosed more often as our diagnostic skills become more sophisticated.

Don't knock an environmental culprit. Autism has even spiked in Europe. It is rare in the third world.

From the Autism Society's web page:

The overall incidence of autism is consistent around the globe, but is four times more prevalent in boys than girls. Autism knows no racial, ethnic, or social boundaries, and family income, lifestyle, and educational levels do not affect the chance of autism's occurrence.

My grandson was born in 1995 and we can absolutely trace his slide into autism to the vaccines. We have home videos that show a bright little boy who changed suddenly at 15 months into a withdrawn, profoundly autistic child. It was like a switch wasturned in his head. His condition is NOT explained by a new, wider definition of autism. 15 months is the age when he received the remainder of his baby shots in preparation to his move to a new state, and his parents noticed the change within the first month afterwards.

Those in denial should read some of the writings of researcher Dr. Mary Megson of Richmond, VA who has done a lot of work in this area and has written extensively on the "leaky gut" syndrome.

And those who want to discount this theory because Robert Kennedy, Jr. has written about it should know that Rep. Dan Burton, R, Ind. is a big proponent of this theory, as he has had 2 granddaughters affected by this. The youngest was given a number of shots in preparation for going overseas and dang near died as a result. She has been profoundly autistic ever since. It is relatively rare for autism to affect a girl.

The number of vaccines that "good" parents are urged to give their children is way out of control -- especially when many of those doses contain a poison, mercury. Even though the companies have withdrawn vaccines from the market containing mercury in recent years, old doses still linger on the shelves of clinics and pediatricians and are shipped to the third world.

The reason this is not observed among a greater number of children is because the underlying sensitivity (leaky gut) is not there for the majority. It is only those children whose digestive systems are still at a critical stage of development that are affected.

Also, know that not all autism is the same. So, removal of the mercury alone would not alleviate all cases.

Close. When you pay people to fix something, a whole lot more ends up broke.

Think of the special ed funding, counseling jobs, etc. which translate to swelled coffers for small Social Service offices, school systems, and health care providers nation wide and I'd wager the total falls in the billions.

ADD, ADHD, and "depression" get similar treatment, imo, and while these conditions do exist and may be real, if the extra funding were not available, I'd bet there would be a lot less. It has become a huge industry.
