BAGHDAD, July 17, 2005 – In what military officials are calling "a new level of barbarity," terrorists tortured and killed two innocent Iraqi civilians and laid their bodies in the road as bait for curious Iraqi civilians and investigating Iraqi security forces before detonating a car bomb at 8 a.m. this morning. The attack, in the New Baghdad district of the capital, killed one Iraqi police officer, along with the terrorist who drove the vehicle. Five civilians and three other Iraqi police officers were wounded.
The bodies were discovered lying in the middle of the road. When Iraqi security forces and a crowd of civilians gathered near the scene, a terrorist drove his car bomb into the group and detonated it.
"The (Iraqi security forces) will not be intimidated by this type of action. We will continue to take the fight to the Godless terrorists," one Iraqi police officer said.
Iraqi forces secured the scene, and all casualties were quickly evacuated to a local hospital. The incident is under investigation, officials said.
The previous day, Iraqi security forces stopped a suicide bomber before he could detonate his suicide vest at the funeral for young victims of the July 13 car bombing, which claimed the lives of two dozen Iraqi children. The terrorist is now in custody at an undisclosed location.
"The terrorists are offering nothing for the future of Iraq. They offer only death to innocent Iraqi people. The people are with us, they support the (police) and the Iraqi army," the police officer said.

Soldiers Charged With Assaulting Suspected Insurgents in Baghdad
U.S. military officials in Baghdad, Iraq, announced today they have charged 11 soldiers with assaulting suspected terrorists. The soldiers were charged July 13, Multinational Force Iraq officials said in a statement.
The charges are related to a report by a Task Force Baghdad soldier that other soldiers had allegedly assaulted suspected terrorists.
"All Task Force Baghdad soldiers are expected to act appropriately and to treat all persons under their control with dignity and respect. Allegations of illegal activities will always be thoroughly investigated," Army Lt. Col. Clifford Kent, a Task Force Baghdad spokesman, said.
These are "patriots and freedom fighters" according to the Mooreons.
Unfortunately the U.S. is fighting a PC war. If Reagan was President these scumbags would be exterminated.
How much longer until the terrorists start sending truck bombs to explode directly in the hospitals? They will then maim and kill people too sick and infirm to escape plus demolish the facilities that would be used to save others. It is only a matter of time when those gutless weasels are concerned.

I agree with you that there is not much they will not do.
If they can take a handicapped kid and strap explosives to him, there is nothing they will not do, including nuclear weapons.
We better prepare ourselves to fight, really fight. This is going to get much, much worse, and we need to be prepared. We aren't, yet.
I hadn't heard about this (naturally). It's not the first time I've read about a thwarted attack (the other times were also on FR). Iraq security forces seem to be making real progress. And, of course, getting information will lead to more progress.
If we ever get to the point where swarms of American aircraft are flying over Islamist strongholds and delivering tons of bombs to the evildoers, we will be on our way towards a solution. Overwhelming force is the only thing those savages understand.
Remember years ago when Colonel Muammar Gaddafi was in Libya and he said something like this to President Reagan:
"The Bay of Sidra is the line of death. If Americans cross it, their blood will run in the streets."
We responded by sending an array of bombers and little was heard from that little pest for years. He managed to take a few swings at President Reagan after our beloved president was already dead, but that's about it.

Allegedly, he gave up his WMD this year. I think it was to have economic sanctions lifted; nothing more. I don't trust him. Wasn't there a report a while back that we had evidence he had more weapons delivered? (From Korea?)

They should be giving those soldiers medals instead of wringing them through the military justice system. And the brass has to ask why recruiting and retention are becoming such problems???? Jeez!

You seem to forget Reagan bombed Khaddaffi and that kept Kaddaffi quiet for a long time.

Reagan's record regarding terror is arguably worse than Jimmy Carters.
