Just a gut feeling here, but in the next SC recess, watch for Rehnquist to bow out! I think W will pick a female for that position...known as Janice Brown...MARK IT!!

Wow, what a week for Ted Kennedy--this today, his anniversary yesterday.

P.S. Now let's get either Luttig or Rogers Brown for Chief Justice as soon as Rehnquist retires.

My own opinion about Rehnquist's assertion that he isn't retiring, is that he didn't want to complicate matters for President Bush, or step on the confirmation process for O'Connor's replacement.

Various journalists have speculated that Rehnquist is somehow ego-driven, and is just hanging in there to achieve the historical distinction of being the longest serving Chief in American history. Well, he'll have that sometime in August, if my math is correct, but I think that he deliberately wanted to remove himself from the spotlight, so that this one (John Roberts) could go forward unimpeded by any "competition" from yet another resignation.

Just my 2 cents.

Char :)

WHAT'S HIS POSITION ON ABORTION?!? That's more important than him being top of his Harvard class or white or male or "comfortable" for the President

Sorry, doesn't compute. It means the next pick is a woman, and the STEVENS pick will be Garza. It's a three-fer, and you Bush bashers need to apologize, big time.

I had hope for Edith Clement.

But am happy with John Roberts.

It could have been worse, you know.

I love this because I was getting really sick of the prevalent idea that O'Connor could only be replaced with a woman or minority nominee. I would have been very happy with SOME of the other nominees mentioned, but I respect the President more than ever for saying emphatically "I'm going to pick the PERSON, regardless of skin color or genitalia, who I think will make the best SCOTUS justice."

Roberts sounds like an outstanding pick, but the Ds and their pack of rabid jackals will try hard to brutalize the upcoming confirmation battle. They must be crushed and humiliated - and if they want to lose the filibuster option forever, so be it!!!

Trust me the Buchananites and third party voters on FR will be rushing in to tell us this is the worst US Supreme Court nominee ever.

Of course they will. For them it is simply about hating President Bush no matter what he does.

He is young.

Indeed. I am sure that was one of the criteria. Bush wants the effect of his appointments to be felt for a long time to come.

Every day President Bush gives me one more reason why its better that he won the election than Gore or Kerry.

Frist you might as well crank up that constitutional option right now because YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO USE IT!
