There are stories like this every summer.

How many people walked right by that car not noticing the baby in the back.

I never walk through a parking lot at the market or mall without checking cars as I pass by. I wish more people would do this - kind of a silent patrol - I check for dogs too.

My car has a feature that the air bag can be turned off if you are transporting something/someone in the front seat who might suffer injury.

These Consumer Groups who go over bad toys, equipment for kids, car seats.... they never look beyond the immediate thing. An alarm for a child in a back seat would be wonderful.

I agree with the person who queried the day care too. Why didn't they call when the child didn't arrive?

I have driven to work many times and am surprised when I arrive at my destination - I wonder if I had been hypnotized covering the same ground each day - and anything different might have gone unnoticed.

This is so sad, even so, we are all human and make mistakes.

Exactly. The other classic example was a proposed FAA regulation that would require all infants to have their own seats rather than being in a parent's lap. Studies have shown that this will likely *increase* deaths, because the added cost of an extra ticket would cause a certain percentage of families to drive instead of fly, which is of course far more dangerous per mile.

Good for you. My sister-in-law is a pediatric nurse and she has seen it all. One day we were shopping and she noticed a child left in a car. She marched into the store that the car was parked in front of and tracked down the parent (a father) and kindly but firmly told him that he should not leave his child in a car unattended.
