Howie Carr has posted audio from his 1994 broadcast at Chappaquiddick. Howie's broadcast was live from the Lawrence Cottage, (aka: The Party House) where he was with Mary Jo)

Howie's new page has Chappaquiddick diver John Farrar describe in his own words what he saw, what he thinks happened and might have been. You can't get a much better source than the diver who pulled Mary Jo's dead body out of the window of Ted's Delmont 88.

I wish there was a "new" photo of Mary Jo. I've only seen the one everyone has. Someone must have another...

the diver who pulled Mary Jo's dead body out of the window of Ted's Delmont 88

I believe that was a 67 Olds Delta 88

Btw, I have no idea what this means.......but, for whatever it's worth.

The Delta 88 was the base model from 1969 (when the Delmont 88 was discontinued) to 1982 (When the base Delta 88 was dropped). The "Royale" was the high line 88 from 1969 through 1978. In 1979 the "Royale Brougham" interior option debuted. It basically consisted of "loose cushion" look seatbacks and "98" caliber fabrics.

Hello BTS,

I'm pretty sure it was a 1967 Delmont 88. I was shocked to find this out recently, I never even heard of a Delmont. From what I can tell, 1965 is the first year they used the name Delta, it was a 1965 Dynamic Delta. 1967 had a Dynamic 88 Delta and the Delmont 88. I've been told that Teddy's car was the Delmont from someone who recognized the trim. I could be wrong, but I think it was a Delmont.

Thanks!

Yeh........... I guess it could be recognized by the "trim" ....... since that's what he was trying to get in that car.......... a little trim.

;-)

Detective Bernie Flynn eventually put together a scenario for the accident :

"I figure,we've got a drunk driver, Ted Kennedy. He's with this girl, and he has it in his mind to go down to the beach and make love to her. He's probably driving too fast and he misses the curve and goes into Cemetery Road. He's backing up when he sees this guy in uniform coming toward him. That's panic for the average driver who's been drinking; but here's a United States Senator about to get tagged for driving under. He doesn't want to get caught with a girl in his car, on a deserted road late at night, with no license and driving drunk on top of it. In his mind, the most important thing is to get away from the situation. - He doesn't wait around. He takes off down the road. He's probably looking in the rear-view mirror to see if the cop is following him. He doesn't even see the f---ing bridge and bingo! He goes off. He gets out of the car; she doesn't. The poor son of a bitch doesn't know what to do. He's thinking: "I want to get back to my house, to my friends" - which is a common reaction.

- There are houses on Dike Road he could have gone to report the accident, but he doesn't want to. Because it's the same situation he was trying to get away from at the corner - which turned out to be minor compared to what happened later. Now there's been an accident; and the girl's probably dead. All the more reason not to go banging on somebody's door in the middle of the night and admit what he was doing. He doesn't want to reveal himself."

"And the funny part about it was, 'Huck' was only trying to give him directions."

Did anyone ever consider that Fatboy was not entirely clothed at the time of the accident and had to run back to the cottage to get a pair of pants?

Hello HMBA,

I used to wonder why he didn't stop to use the phone at the Dike House on his walk/trot back to the Lawrence Cottage. He claimed there were no lights on, the Malms say there was. Now when I find out there was a phone at the Lawrence Cottage, (the party house) I think even less of Ted. According to his testimony he was at the party house about 15 mins after leaving the bridge. He then sat in the back of the White Dodge and waited for Gargan. Why didn't he go inside and call the police like any normal person would do??? What an asshole.
