LAUREN BACALL: 'VULGAR' TOM CRUISE IS NOT A GREAT ACTOR
Drudge Report ^ | 07-31-05 | WestVirginiaRebel

Posted on 07/31/2005 1:30:02 PM PDT by WestVirginiaRebel

NEW YORK-Lauren Bacall tells TIME Tom Cruise is not a great actor. "When you talk about a great actor, you're not thinking about Tom Cruise," Bacall says.

"His whole behavior is so shocking. It's inappropriate and vulgar and absolutely unacceptable to use your private life to sell anything commercially, but I think it's a kind of sickness."

"When Tom Bashed psychiatry many on the left apparently decided it was time for a little smear campaign on Tom Cruise."

Why? Tom Cruise is doing a fair enough job revealing himself to be a stupid arse...I already knew he was a hack actor.

Clark Gable became Rhett Butler

Really? Gable always seems like Gable to me. Far more Tom Cruise in that respect than Daniels or Hanks, who are true chameleons.

Cruise is a movie star and not an actor. The number of people who can be both actor and movie star is extraordinarily rare.

Did you see "Magnolia"? I'm no fan of Cruise but that was a very good movie!

Tom Cruise was right to bash psychiatry

You need to do more research. This is how Scientologists deal with mental health issues.

On December 5, 1995, Lisa McPherson was dead on arrival at a hospital 45 minutes north of Clearwater Florida. According to the coroner's report, Lisa was underweight, severely dehydrated, and had bruises and bug bites.

Lisa's last address was listed by the police as 210 S. Ft. Harrison in Clearwater Florida, which is the Fort Harrison Hotel, a Scientology property. Lisa had been a Scientologist from the age of 18 to her death at age 36.

Lisa was put on the Introspection Rundown that Scientology uses to handle those who have had a psychotic break.

On November 18, 1995, Lisa was involved in a minor car accident. She was apparently not hurt, but she got out of her car and took all her clothes off and seemed mentally unstable. She was taken to a hospital where she was physically evaluated as being unharmed, but the hospital wanted her to be psychologically cared for. However, some Scientologists arrived and stated that Lisa did not believe in psychiatry, and she checked out after a short evaluation and left with the Scientologists. She went with them to the Ft. Harrison Hotel for "rest and relaxation" according to the church, but church logs from Lisa's stay there from November 18 to her death December 5 show differently. Some logs are missing, and a high ranking ex-Scientologist has written an affidavit in which he claims that the church has in the past destroyed documents that might get the church in trouble.

It's quite obvious that you did not hear her 'b*tch slapping' of Hoppy Kercheval and 'W' before the last election. Her screed would have made Begala blush. She was totally in the tank for Kerry.

Completely and utterly unintelligible.

My head hurts just trying to figure out what that was supposed to actually mean.

You left out "Rain Man." : )

Great actors can make you forget that you're looking at them instead of the character they're playing. Tom Cruise has never been able to do that. It reminds me of a routine I saw a comic do on the Tonight Show once: "In one movie Tom's a pilot. He's a pretty good pilot, until he loses his self-confidence and gets it back with the help of a beautiful woman...in another, he's a bartender. He's a pretty good bartender, until he loses his self-confidence and gets it back with the help of a beautiful woman. In another, he was a race car driver..."

Big Sleep, Key Largo, and To Have and Have Not...HMMM TASTY!

Just add in Casablanca and Maltese Falcon and you've got the very best of old Hollywood and Bogie.

I bet it depends upon how and where one meets her.

Forty+ years ago, my parents lived in the building next door to her. She was always out and about the neighborhood and shopped in the same stores my mother did. And the local merchants were NOT enamored of her and her foul mouth, high and mighty attitude and I know why! My mother would often take me to a dress shop/boutique in the neighborhood. On two different occasions, I saw and heard Bacall through one of her foul mouth tirades, which she was well known for doing. Her language would have made a sailor blush, back then, when no man, let alone a woman, would use such language in public.

And FYI...her behavior and language was totally UNCALLED for! I know exactly what had transpired, from beginning to end, since I was in the dressing room next to her and heard it all. She proved to me, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that her reputation was not only earned, but that the stories about her, were toned down; not exaggerated and that the language she used, cleaned up, in the retelling.

No, she wasn't called because of a membership in the communist party. She and a host of other Hollywood "Liberals" went to Washington to protest the investigation.

At the time she was considered a liberal.

Lauren Bacall, a reminder of an era when Hollywood had class.

Very true.

But she's still an old Hollywood Leftie, and a Clinton supporter as well.
