"Violence prompts Consulate closure in Nuevo Laredo
Facility closed through Aug. 5; Matamoros consul remains active"
By SERGIO CHAPA
The Brownsville Herald
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "July 30, 2005 A Thursday night battle in Nuevo Laredo between drug traffickers armed with grenades, rocket launchers and heavy machine guns prompted American officials to temporarily close its Consulate in the troubled border city.
U.S. Ambassador Tony Garza said in a written statement that the Consulate would suspend all operations except for emergency services for Americans through at least Aug. 5.
The closure comes two days after Garza announced that ongoing border violence prompted the U.S. State Department to extend a travel advisory for the entire Mexican side of the border until further notice."
My sister was born in Honduras. I'm damned glad we adopted her for so many different reasons.
A very small tip of a very big iceberg.
Incarcerate them in the Aleutians. Give them a speedy military trial by tribunal, followed by execution. If for some reason they are found "innocent" of everything except crashing our borders, deport them to their countries of origin and deliver them directly into the hands of their police. If they show up here again, wash, rinse, repeat. If they even spit on the sidewalk, execute them the next time they are picked up.
they are not born or naturalized US citizens
*sigh*
if only the the 14th Amendment had not devolved to using the term "person" we would be able to deal with these villains effectively, summarily, and permanently.

"Nabbing illegals"
TODAY'S EDITORIAL
August 3, 2005
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Since there are about 5,000 members of the murderous Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang in the Washington area, it's hard to get too excited about the apprehension of 11 in the past few weeks. Still, the announcement Monday that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have arrested more than 1,000 gang members nationwide so far this year is good news.
Originally intended to dismantle only the MS-13 gang, ICE's anti-gang initiative, Operation Community Shield, extended its mission in May to track more than 80 violent street gangs in 30 states. Almost all of these gangs consist of illegal aliens from Central and Latin American, though a few, like the Asian Boyz and the Jamaican Posse, reveal that the problem is global. Of the 1,000 gang members who have been arrested this year, 90 percent have been illegal aliens. Suspects were caught in nearly every major U.S. city, as well as in the rural areas of Iowa, South Dakota and Nebraska. "We're just getting started," said Marcy Forman, ICE's director of investigations. Let's hope so. Street gangs now account for 93 percent of all homicides in which organized crime is the suspected cause, according to the FBI."

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras-
ARTICL SNIPPET: ""They are dangerous offenders, despite their young ages," Honduran Security Minister Oscar Alvarez said Sunday.
Honduran authorities are struggling to combat high rates of violent crime, much of it involving ruthless youth gangs, known as "maras," concentrated in urban areas.
The Mara Salvatrucha and rival Mara 18 have about 100,000 members and control poor neighborhoods in Honduras' principal cities using violence, threats and extortion.
On a two-day break in the Honduran capital, Markey took a cab from his hotel to visit the Basilica of Suyapa, a shrine to the country's patron saint, where he was confronted by two assailants and shot twice, according to testimony from his taxi driver.
Honduran authorities said the U.S. agent had been training Honduran police involved in drug interdiction efforts. He was assigned to the General Watch Unit at the El Paso Intelligence Center in El Paso, Texas, at the time of his death."
Losing 103 members must be hard on them.
Composed of mostly Salvadorans and other Central Americansmany of them undocumentedthe gang has a uniquely international profile, with an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 members in 33 states in the United States (out of more than 700,000 gang members overall), and tens of thousands more in Central America.
