Does anybody know the kind of questions Pincus was asked before the Grand Jury?
Was he asked about this CIA source?
To be honest .. I'm not sure
Ping for help on this answer
I think the biggest tip-off is that Pincus called his source an "analyst" rather than just a CIA source or CIA official.
Again, I truly doubt that many CIA analysts would risk their careers to talk to a reporter.
They undergo polygraphs every couple of years, and this would be one of the questions they would be asked.
Plame, who already saw all of this as her ticket to the big time, would be willing to take that risk. But I can't imagine any other analysts willing to do so.
Thanks. I have looked, but I haven't seen much said about what Pincus was asked.
It sure looks to me like it was Valerie.
She had the motive--not only is she a lefty, but this would help her hubby get a plum job with Kerry--who he was already working for.
She had the opportunity--since Wilson was already talking to Pincus.
And she had the means--access to all of this agit-prop about the forged documents and Wilson's bogus fact-finding mission.
At the very least Pincus should be made to tell who this was. After all, this CIA analyst was LEAKING--which we all know is a serious crime!

As far as the "senior" part goes:Sources told CNN that Plame works in the CIA's Directorate of Operations -- the part of the agency in charge of spying -- and worked in the field for many years as an undercover officer. "If she were only an analyst, not an operative, we would not have filed a crimes report" with the Justice Department, a senior intelligence official said.Although it has been proven since that she was truly not covert, the conventional wisdom at the time the Pincus article was done was that she was. The was she or wasn't she argument came long after that.
Thanks, I hadn't seen that.
Interesting.
Not surprising.
And I'll lay a heavy wager right now that your supposition will not be a part of those findings.
That quote only shows that CNN talks to anybody. Clearly their "source" doesn't know what the hell they are talking about.
Analysts work in Operations, too. (In fact, that is where they ALL work.) Everything is some kind of support--like personnel, etc.
Sheesh!
I've noticed that you have a very interesting take on all of this. It seems remarkably uninformed, just obdurate. And very much geared in favor of Wilson.
In any case, I'm not putting too much hope in Fitzgerald's report to solve everything. I suspect he was very limited in his purview (despite media reports to the contrary). He has said repeatedly he could wrap the whole thing up if Miller would just talk.
He was charged to do a very limited investigation, and I suspect that is what he has been doing.
Ok consider this:
Miller got the story from a Clinton person, I have no idea who, but a Clinton person....Clinton finds out about it, and the heat is on....thus if Miller says who told her the scoop, she'd be another dead one of the Clinton Body Count....??????
bttt
""If she were only an analyst, not an operative, we would not have filed a crimes report" with the Justice Department, a senior intelligence official said."
Also, as you probably know, it's been reported that the CIA referral to the Justice Department didn't even mention the "Agee Law" protecting covert agents.
By the way, as you probably also know, the CIA makes quite a number of "crime reports" to the Justice Department--EVERY WEEK.
They can't all be about deep undercover spies.
I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for the Shorenstein Center to hold a seminar on the issue of people maliciously using the press as a "cutout" in the process of attacking political enemies. But it might be nice amidst all this uncritical support for a federal shield law.
As far as favoring "Wilson" goes, I assume you are talking about Joe. Because, as much as people like to theorize about Valerie's actions and motives, if you stopped and examined what you know about her, what she did at CIA, and any actions she may have taken in conjunction with her exposure as a CIA employee - and if you did so honestly - you'd surely acknowledge that you know absolutely nothing about any of those topics, except for MSM snippets that you can slice and dice.
No, I don't 'favor' Joe Wilson. I do 'favor' the truth over 'totally ridiculous' spin. And the idea that this woman was just working overtly at CIA in a mid-level desk job, but somehow the publication of that status justifies a criminal referral by the Agency and a GJ investigation is absurd.
As I said, I look forward to exchanging thoughts with you when it is over. Of course, I expect we'll then be in the throes of the 'Fitzgerald is a corrupt-commie-lib-lawyer-bureaucrat' frenzy.
My money is on Alan Foley who was Plame's boss, and who approved Liar Wilson's trip.
Foley suddenly retired in August right after The Plame/Yellowcake Scam erupted.
