That NYT response is pure unadulterated bullsqueeze.

They succeeded in sending their message, and now they're hunkering down waiting out the return fire. Once it dies down a bit they'll check and see if Roberts understood what they were telling him, and if he didn't (that is, if he stays in as a Supreme Court nominee), they'll send an even stronger message.

Ah hem.

I will verify with you right now that not all white are upper class in S. America. Matter of fact, I will verify with you right now that there were white slaves in S. America. Blonde and blue eyes included in that fact.

>>>>I came across someone who actually voices anger or hostility against the idea of adoption, sometimes in right front of the kids.

I've seen this in the public school systems first hand from teachers towards students that were adopted.

I don't doubt that there were some but my comments were directed at the institutionalised racism that exists today in Latin America. The roots are deep and to meet it first hand is shocking.

I'll add that's what makes America great. There are really no limits and boundaries based on a person's color/skin tone.

You may be right about the intent of your comments. When reading a thread in message order it is hard to keep track of where each posters individual comments are coming from.

This thread went nuts with the blonde/blue eyed elite of S. America. I know there were slaves there. My family was taken from Italy to Argentine.

I'm not surprised about the slavery thing actually. I read stories about the Romans cutting the hair off of blonde slaves to use for wigs. It's hard not to talk about the white elite in Latin America. Just turn on spanish television. It's amazing.

I know that and you know that. I'm just reading the insane theories.

I'm second generation here. I was lucky enough to have my Momma Nome for YEARS and hear all the stories. And I have pictures of the history...and family in Italy that never made it out.

Our cave is still standing today in Italy. I have pictures of when Momma Nome lived there...and pictures today of our family visiting the same cave. It is very touching.

There were white slaves in this country also. There was an infamous case in New Orleans where a German orphan was sold into slavery.I wander how many of the quadroons and mulattoes were poor white people.Did the same thing happen in S.America ,or did slavers actually go to European countries and capture whites?

In our case, my Grandmother was qualified to leave since she was the 11th child. The villagers paid passage for her to go. But she had to serve time in Argentine. The details of her time in Argentine were ALWAYS sketchy. I know all the stories (I think) of our family while in Italy. But Argentine was never really spoken of the same way.

Once she got on the boat to America and went through the paper work, she was immediately taken to Argentine. The time she spent there was never clarified. What she did there other than worked for a family was never clarified.

When she was done, she was permitted back to America.

Now this thread has many questions going threw my head.

Ok, now I'm not going to sleep tonight.

is there another human slave ranch in S. America?

Is that why she never spoke of Argentine?
