Hortense was much earlier -- maybe 1850 or '60. No, I haven't heard it either :-), but with a title like that, it has to be a hoot.

You've mentioned a bunch of songs from the '20s and '30s. Do you collect 78s? I'm a big fan of the Comedian Harmonists from that era; do you know the group?

Have you ever heard "Rolling Stone" played by Dylan and the Hawks at the Free Trade Hall in 1966? http://theband.hiof.no/albums/boot_play_fucking_loud.html

That's the ultimate version of it for me.

____________________

In May of 1966, Bob Dylan stands on an English stage, coming back for the second half of a concert. The first part, done solo and acoustic, was well received, even though the lyrics were not the socially-conscious politically-motivating messages that had gained Dylan popularity barely a year before. Now he appears in a check houndstooth "rabbit" suit and pointed boots in front of a 5 piece band with an electric guitar in hand, playing incandescent rock and roll. There are catcalls throughout the set, and finally, just before the last number, someone yells "Judas!". Dylan replies, "I don't believe you!", turns to the band and snarls "play fucking loud!"--drummer Mickey Jones cracks the snare like a rifle shot and the Hawks roar into "Like A Rolling Stone". Dylan's voice is a velvet sneer as he shouts out the line "how does it feeeeeeel" and the performance rolls on with power, defiance and a sheer majesty rarely captured on tape.

And they all stink.

Sorry if I offended you buy dissing the drug addled Dylan.

His music is tiresome to say the least. Then again, I like Neil Young, when I gravitate towards the newer stuff.

I used to date a girl who would listen to Dylan albums and cry when she drank too much, so I have a legitimate reason to dislike his monotone.

I am currently infatuated with Mozart... The sounds that humans are supposed to make.

Dylan was a sack of manure then and is a sack of manure now. Nothing has changed.

No. But I know of that tour. He met a lot of resistance going electric. And from what people who saw him somewhere on that tour have told me, they were blown away.

Thanx for the links

"It's the way (Presley) sings it as if he is singing from the depths of hell," McCartney said. "His phrasing, use of echo, it's all so beautiful. Musically, it's perfect."

lol....McCartney's certainly worked hard and definitely has the I-IV-V-IV-I chord progression down pat.  I won't belittle his success.

But someone who's understanding of music is so limited he has to hire a ghost writer for orchestrating wouldn't know what's musically perfect.

Sorry I missed this...I have over 700 Dylan bootlegs and can get ANY show thats out there. I always get a kick out of the responses to Bob, people who have no clue think he is a flaming liberal, its actually quite funny. Most people just can't get past his "unusual" voice. If you want some mind blowing cds drop me a line, I'm not kidding. I've been collecting for years and have connections who literally have EVERY show that is available, no joke. I get a kick out of sending cool folks great stuff...s

Dylan was an insufferable twit; he is now an expert in the field and those who think the world has changed in their lifetimes are merely recognizing that they weren't paying attention in the first place.
