On second thoughts seeing as many Republicans seem not to be that stellar in their support of the President and his policies/nominations so does the popularity or supposed popularity of the President make any difference. Though I suppose the average man in the street may not be aware of the support or otherwise the President is given by the candidate
You have hit the dirty secret the Left doesn't want you to know. I suspect there are about 1/3 of the American Population who are upset with Bush for NOT BEING TOUGH ENOUGH. So they poll as "Disapproving of Bush's handling of Iraq" but still would pick Bush over the Democrats Cut and Run strategy. What everyone seems to miss is that the Dims never can get more then about 38% of the population to poll as being in favor of their run away and hide idea. The other thing, I wonder is how much of that 38% is the Isolationist Hard Right who would have the US pull out of everywhere, come home, build a wall completely around the country and let no foreign people or goods in at all? Iraq is strange that way. Normally the Hysteric Left, and the Hard Right, are mortal enemies but On Iraq they both agree. One out of a knee jerk appeasement mindset, the other out of rabid isolations thinking.
